Enabling Bluetooth

Hi All,

Just got my 1st BMW - 320d, however, as the car was a demo model the bluetooth functionality for phone was not enabled/installed. If possible, how could the bluetooth be enabled/installed as i think it's a bit useless having a multifunction steering installed just to adjust the volume of the in-car audio.

All feedback will be appreciated.

Push the idrive button in. go to communication settings, then to bluetooth. then it should say "bluetooth active in this screen" or something like that. and thats where you pair them. if you have ever paired anything before, its very easy. go through your phone settings, and "find" your car. then enter a passkey in the phone. then enter it in your car. its pretty easy

Oh and welcome to the forum...

Unfortunately the vehicle is not fitted with an I drive system :thumbdo:
Are there any other solutions?

And yes, I do plan on posting pics of my car asap.

Hey Man, sorry to be the bearer of bad news but if it was not factory installed, the buttons are mere dummies. All e90's came with these buttons as ßtàndard.

I just like you, there are many things all don 't understand, but I give their technical staff dozen telephone, is they help me solve the problem, so I suggest you to do so.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I went through the same questions when I got my car last year. So in short your car doesn't have bluetooth. It'll have to be additionally installed by BMW or you can go the third party root.

You probably like me want to keep the car as OEM as possible and there are products out there that can integrate into your car which utilises the steering wheel controls and displays phone info on the radio screen just like the original. However its a bit pricey. Have a look at http://www.smac.co.za/.

I've pretty much given up on that option though as its way too expensive (R5000+). I'm planning on getting myself a little device called the Belkin AirCast Auto In-Car Bluetooth Adapter. It works off the 3.5mm AUX input in your car.

Have a look at this video of how it works.

The factory fitted bluetooth system cannot play music from your phone/ipod touch etc, it only accepts phone calls, as it doesn't support A2DP. However this Belkin device does. If you shop around for it, you should be able to get it for under R1000.

Bluetooth is not standard with BMW. If it was not installed, I'm sorry to say your phone button is useless. It cannot be enabled unless you do a bluetooth kit retrofit. BMW can do this for you, but it's expensive!!
