Emptied cat vs aftermarket downpipe

I presume doing an aftermarket dowpipe is the better option, but is it really worth paying double vs emptying out the cat?

What are the pros and cons of each?

Does the larger diameter of the emptied cat cause any issues with airflow?

I've also been told an emptied cat has a very "tin-like" sound, is this true?

All the information I have read points to a downpipe being the better option.

I am just waiting to get past the usual nonsense of maintenance and sorting some niggling issues out and will be doing the downpipe.

I emptied the cat in my 330d. It does make a hollow sound but only when you stand at the back of the car. The emptied cat does nothing in terms of sound also. Go for the DP.
