technical emergency call system malfunction

Hi All
I have a 2023 X1 and I am getting an error emergency call system malfunction.
Can this be caused by that I'm not in SA and there is no mobile data connection?

Hi

If you check the messages in the infotainment system, what do you see?

Also, what does your MyBMW app say regarding current car status? Also check messages there as well.

To test the system, press the SOS button in the car. It should work anywhere in SADC region.

It shows the error Emergency call system malfunction on the infotainment and in the MyBMW app
When I press the SOS button it does nothing.

There are very seldom cases of a faulty telematic unit, which sits just under the fin/antenna cover.

Any chance you wrapped your roof or was the antenna cover removed at any stage? The cover is sealed up and stuck on using the same adhesive they use when replacing windscreens i believe. If even a little of water gets underneath it damages the telematic unit. I do know of a new 2023 X3 that had a faulty unit due to the cover not being sealed up correctly from the factory.

No nothing like that I was driving, and the alert popped up.
I'm in Zimbabwe at the moment so I'll have to wait to come to SA to go to a dealer.

I went to the dealer, and they replaced the unit in the fin and the battery.
All working again.
