Electric TowBar Fault

Hi Guys

So yesterday i get a nice message on my dashboard complaining about a fault on my tow hitch.

Its annoying as the message does not go away.
Car is out of plan and stealerships want to charge me 18k to have this replaced.

Anyone had a similar issue? I'm hoping these units can be repaired instead of just being replaced.

Regards,
Vinny

Hey, wondering if you found a solution for this? Same thing happened on my X3 yesterday....

It's listed at R11,400.00 on my OTP for my X3, R18k is absurd. Its not like it was never there and they have to retrofit. It can only be something electronic IMO.

I have no clue but maybe its a fuse or something small.

Hopefully its not a complete failure of the motor.

Well, I had that happen a few months back on mine.

was driving with tow bar out, and up pops a warning saying its faulty.
I freak out, pull over... and its visually fine.
pop the boot, push the button and push tow bar back in.
start car, warning again.... Swear at car, kick tow bar and put it out again.

I drove like that for a day and when i came back after work (got back in at 23h00 after a long shift) the error was gone. and still to now, no issue.

i saw somewhere on a Euro forum its sometimes dirt that causes it to flip out.
so try leaving it for a while (or disconnect battery) and clean out under the car by the tow bar and cables, and they say it should go away.

Hope you come right.

What was the actual fault on the cluster?
1. Can be control module.
2. Fuse
3. Wiring between control module and towbar itself
4. Wiring from control module to central loom.
