Seems im in need of a new electric cooling fan :cry:. I see these buggers are quite pricey.

Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where i can get one at a good price please.

Or is there any forum members looking to get rid of there's?

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Wow, their price has not gone up since I bought mine! :clapper:

Sorry to be the bringer the bad news, but that is about what you can expect to pay for it, or you can ask BMW for a price? :)

G-Drive charged me R2800.00 + transport, so R2500.00 seemed a quite a bit better than R3000.00+ at the time ...

The reason why it is so expensive is that it is a variable speed fan, not two speed like on the older BMW's.

Come to think of it - don't know how old your car is, but that works out at about R170.00 per year of service, or +/- R14.17 per month:

R2500.00/15 years = R166.00/12 months = R13.88 p.m.

If you have INPA on a laptop and a cable (or know someone who does), you can test the old electric fan to see if it is really FUBAR before buying another one.

INPA has several functions where various systems can be activated in test mode.

The electric cooling fan is controlled by the DME and uses the inputs from several sensors (coolant outlet temp, a/c pressure) which can prevent the fan from running even though there is nothing wrong with the fan.

If you look at the top right hand corner of the pic you will that where the only proper screw that mounts the fan goes in. My mate broke that corner off :skit:

But the fan still works, that part is on the to do DIY list of small fixes.

I feel you pain :rollsmile::rollsmile:

hi guys tell me something why do some wiscus(non BMW part) make a whinding sound like on diesels?

Because its a cheap knock-off and not OEM?

The viscous coupling is locked up, the next thing (what happened to me) is the fan will shatter into a million pieces and destroy anything it hits - I had to replace the radiator on my car after this "event"
