The window issue can be the FRM. I had a similar issue with front windows and it turned out to be FRM

Ok guys, just some feedback on this car, and I am pretty upset about how it has turned out.

I took the car in to have the waste-gate rattle repaired on 22 October, was told that it would only take a day or two, did not happen.

As I had to leave the country on business I told the dealership I would send a friend to pick up the car when it was done. 31 October he picked up the car, I told him to just check everything and drive the car for a week to ensure everything is fine. The next day he let me know that the car was leaking oil, water and there was an exhaust leak. and took the car back on 1 November.

On 8 November he got the car back once again, checked it out quickly and all the problems seems to have been solved except for a heat shield that was rattling. On Saturday he took the car to visit some family in Bronkhorstspruit, on his way back just after the toll gate the engine light came on again, scanned the car and low and behold, low boost, so he let the car cool down and felt, seems like the wastegates are still loose.

So the mechanic would have collected the car today to sort it out once again.

I am so incredibly fed up and once again realize whey I work on my own cars. The only reason this job was sent in was because it was a issue that needed to be solved by the dealership as I bought the car with the problem. I am flying back home on Friday and seems like I will just do the job myself then as that is obviously the only way to get the car fixed.:cartel:

Congrats on the car and sad news on what your going through.

I would like to be blunt and honest though. If a mechanic tells you that he can sort out your waste gate rattle in a day or two then he is smoking his underpants!

The entire subframe needs to be dropped turbos pulled out and the repair needs to be performed, the repair itself takes some time as it requires cutting and welding! a simple youtube search of N54 turbo removal will show you what an insanely monumental task it is to remove the turbos from the N54, just fitting down-pipes to these cars is a complete ball ache let alone removing these turbos!

If you are brave enough to perform this on your own that's awesome, please post photos of the process :)

Else definitely take Firi up on his offer and give Afzil a ring! He will sort this out for you!

Waste gate rattle is such a ball ache on these cars and it really should be a damn call back on BMW's side.

Yeah I am under no impression that it is a small job, Mechanic on the other hand did not do he's research as he put in red on the quote: "RTH Recommend 10.5 hours labor, I have cut my labor to 5 hours".

When I saw this I knew he did not do proper research on the job but like I said it was the dealer that needed to get it sorted so I just :roflol:

anyway I will see what has happened when I get home and and will post pics if it comes to that.

Update time:

After a few "it will be ready tomorrow" I finally had enough on Saturday and went and collected the car on a trailer.

Problem now is one of the coolant hoses are missing. I could see it goes to the heater input, the oil cooler and then to a hose from the the water pump. If someone has a picture of it or know where I can find one, please let me know.

So this has now turned into a project, we shall call it "Project Repair the Repair"

I go the nose up in the air last night and drained the coolant, tonight I will drain the oil and start the stripping process.

While lying under the car I noticed a fair amount of oil so started looking for the leak. Turns out the oil drain gasket on the rear turbo is halfway out. also noticed the front turbo coolant line not properly seated so I have no choice but to strip the whole sub-frame to get access to the turbos. Also noticed my front right rim is scratched up nicely, I take it they put it face down.

Now for the questions, what supplier locally stock parts for BMW? so far goldwagen has not had one part I was looking for so I am giving up hope on them. Is getting OEM BMW parts really that expensive?

So far I know of the steering rack bolts, as well as the control arm bolts that needs to be replaced once they are removed. I would ideally like to replace the gaskets of all the things I remove to avoid leaks.

I will take picks as I go and keep the thread updated as I go.

I buy pretty much everything from BMW, sometimes their prices are ludicrous in which case I go hunting gumtree/olx/scrap yards/ whatsapp groups etc. But owning a Z4 even though its N54 means goldwagon stocks nothing!! the N54 on the Z4 has different parts all over compared to 135 and 335 unfortunately!
Allot of the time though BMW parts are not that bad, and if you ask for a discount you will get one and its usually pretty good. I bought the oil cooler line last week, BMW quoted me 3.8k for it and I asked for discount and paid 3.1k.

Do yourself a favor if you haven't already and get yourself a proper torque wrench, you will need it. Last thing you need is to start snapping bolts.

welcome bud, who was the dealer ? would hate for someone to go through the same thing on a different car.

Thank you for the heads up Osiris, I will ask them for a discount, that might help.

I just want to say that is is not the fault of the dealer I bought the car from but rather the mechanic the car was sent to for the job, the dealer is being very supportive about the matter and is offering to pay for me to take it to a mechanic of my choice. It is at my own discretion that I have made the decision to rather do the Job myself as I do not trust others to work on my cars, and this experience just reaffirms this for me.

So guys, update on the car for those interested.

I am done stripping the turbos out, the job done was absolutely shocking to say the least but I will put together a nice story with pictures when done.

Waste gate rattle kit and turbo replacement kit was ordered from Turner Motorsports and should hopefully arrive next week. The dealer has informed me that the mechanic has given the parts missing from the car to him so will collect that this later today.

I am aiming to have the car back on the road by next weekend, should the parts arrive from the US early next week.

Small update on the car, Not much happening as I am basically awaiting parts to arrive.

I did however start remove the waste-gate arms and bushes on Sunday and noticed that the front turbo's turbine wheel was full of oil so I just dropped the cores at Afzil do do the seals for me.

parts from the US should according to tracking be here tomorrow so then I can do the waste-gates and as soon as the cores are back I can start getting the job done.

I just want to get this job done now so I can start enjoying the car.

So guys, here is a update for you guys. let me start with the picks from getting the car back running:

I am splitting the post into a few posts as there is a lot of images

So after I collected the car I knew there was a burst water pipe but when I started looking for it I found that the pipe was removed and the water pipe from the water pump was just bent over to stop the water from draining out the car:

iBPzzBg.jpg

After I saw this I knew the chances of them driving the car and the pipe bursting was very small so most likely it was broken when they put back the subframe, so that made the amount of oil from the car very concerning and it was then that I saw this:

So as I was removing the wheels to start the big job of removing the turbos I noticed my rim was also damaged most likely due to putting it down face down:

They also managed to cross thread the bolt of the U-Joint on the steering arm so not even tightening it all the way:

I managed to tap this and replace the bolt luckily so did not have to replace it.

The exhaust also had a leak after the first visit to them so this was the obvious solution:

Then just some pictures in the process of taking off the subframe:

Mechanic stated he sent both turbos in to be repaired, judge for yourself:

Water line on turbo not seated properly:

Bolt turned in scew:

and stripped, you can also see the other bolts also stripped:

Another water line not seated:
