E9x N55 335I M-DCT issues

Hi guys, so basically this is what happened and i would appreciate you guys opinion on the matter:

I purchased my vehicle few months pack (see post up in the new members) luckily still under Motorplan till Feb 2018 - it currently has about 47500 off km on it too.

So basically on Monday i was on my way home in peak traffic and a Transmission Overheating warning popped up telling me to pull over and press park.

and if it continues to take to BMW, so anyways i called BMW on call and had the vehicle towed (got a brand new 320i LCI with 200 odd km haha :ty:)

So BMW phones me and has informed me that the clutches are gonna be replaced.

I have the option to renew the motorplan to Feb 2019 for R13k.

Would you guys suggest this considering the gearbox issue? the brake pads and discs have been changed last month as part of the service.....

WOuld really appreciate any feedback.

Thanks,

If it was my car I'd extend motorplan as deep as it goes... R13k might seem a lot now, but if a turbo on your N55 goes you'll make that money back and then some. Just gives you that extra year of hassle free motoring.

For reference, my current car (under previous owners) had it mplan extended for 2 years. Bearings went something like 2 months before the extended (i.e. 6yrs and 10 months into the 7 years of plan) plan ended. A new S54 is in the region of R200 000...

I guess you have to look at it as a form of insurance, the other nice thing is that it'll have a proper BMW system history for 6 or 7, as opposed to 5, years. Also, if you decide to sell it, being able to sell with 6 months or more of mplan will be a worthwhile selling point.

wow thats very low mileage for a clutch replacement !
just had mine done at 107 000 kms
that guy must have been launching it everyday day to go that soon.
bear in mind clutch pack and flywheel would have costed you around R60k had it not been on plan.

i would definitely buy another year or even 2
your clutch replacement will be under guarantee for 2 years now.

but alot can go wrong with n55 later on and believe me the RRR can add up very quickly

Thanks mate, yeah when i got it, sometimes i used to feel a shudder when taking off which i thought was normal, what else should i look out for when collecting my car back? I will definitely be renewing the motorplan.

let them check the gearbox oil pan for leaks
also the flywheel while the gearbox is off.
any leaks from engine oil pan

just check the boost pipe/throttle body connection for cracks.
otherwise if it ain't itching don't let them scratch anywhere else.

I say extend the mplan.....piece of mind.

I got quoted R40k for extending mine for 20000km for 1 year. Next service was in R22000km.

At that price (with some more cash bolted on) I decided to buy an E36 - that's my Motorplan

The service technician phoned and said the clutch aswell as the flywheel being replaced among other things, will request to see the jobcard tomorrow.

Yo sorry for not getting back, yeah the car is back, gearbox a bit finnicky but i guess its because it has been reset, took a drive to MP on wed and seemed ok then, if it carries on being funny i will take it back.

By funny i mea it sometimes doesnt know what gear to choose and is hesitant at times to change haha

No brainer to extend plan - especially at R13K.

Car feels a bit odd after adaptations are reset. Had mine reset when I had my clutches changed. It should feel normal soon otherwise take it back in for them to take measurements again. It does seem like very low mileage to have clutches go though...
