E9X 330i Software

I have seen that intake mod as well.., the exhaust mod in question, of course mostly done in the US on the 330i as well as on the 128.. which is 3L from what I gathered called 130i in SA.
I think what also causes huge gains there is that their N52s have secondary cats (2) after the primary. So there is definitely some emissions difference on their side. So cutting all the cats out gives them huge gains such as 35hp.
But still, we do have cats and our header design is same. That is good news for those of us who wants to exploit that option :whip:

The only thing I would be worried about is a loud exhaust... I'd want to get as much air through without noise... I want all the noise to come from the beautiful S6 infront of me.

I can't find any local exhaust youtube videos, anyone got a link for me?

Yep, not a fan of too much noise! Last year I experimented to trace a rattle noise, disconnected the exhaust flap on my 330i (located on the right exhaust pipe), and for the first 10 minutes of driving admittedly I did like the extra noise at low speeds, but after that, it just began to irritate me! I actually like the way my car's exhaust sounds by default - it's mostly subdued when driving at sedate speeds, it's only somewhat noisier when you really get into the throttle and at higher revs of course. And then you get to hear that awesome BMW NA soundtrack as it should be! But, this is also personal preference...

Your exhaust will only be as loud as you want it to be. I was very fussy with mine. It all depends on how big boxes you run. My exhaust sounds almost stock. Yet 4 cats are out and the piping is changed to dual 57mm.

How did you manage that?

+1!

Well, if the place you go to knows what they are doing, they should be able to make it as noisy or quiet as you want it to be!

Any reputable exhaust place will guide you in terms of sound.

Go see Ralf@Speedway, we chopped and changed until I was satisfied with the sound.

If u in JHB, u welcome to hear my 330i and decide for yourself:thumbs:

I've done the decat, removed the middle silencer box and fitted a k&n filter. At about 2000rpm the exhaust sounds like a e46... When you do the decat, make sure they disable the O² sensor correctly, otherwise you'll have a flat spot.
I gained about 4kw and 12nm.

I tried the bms tuning chip. It wasn't worth it.... I'm gonna try another software tune.

The next exhaust mod is to do a 63mm freeflow.

I see you live in CT, if you want to hear it, we can meet up somewhere. I'm going to Auto Atlantic this morning if you wanna meet there.

Did the BMS Powerbox not improve throttle response? Thought that was it's main purpose, to get rid of that "dead pedal" feel with these N52s?

Unfortunately it didn't. It was heavier on fuel and gained 2kw.
I think the powerbox is tuned for stock and not for other mods done. I already had the decat and filter done before the powerbox was installed.

And it can't be tweaked to factor in your mods? Eish guess it's better to get a local tune then so it can be optimized for every mod you make. Pity, I was kinda looking at this BMS.

It's got 7 maps on it. U can't tweak them.
My car needs a custom tune.

I had the same BMS Powerbox fitted to test on my 330i which is 100% stock. It does sharpen up the throttle but does not do anything about the throttle lag which to me is the main issue. If anything, on map 3 (the most aggressive throttle response with BMS tune) it made the car feel quite jerky and unpleasant. Maps 1 and 2 were a bit better, but still somewhat jerky and less predictable than the stock throttle, at least to me it was. As for power gains, if there was any, I didn't notice it.

Thanks for that review Philip, guess there's no getting away from that dead pedal. I've gotten used to it but sometimes you just wish it was more precise :(

I haven't deleted mine yet, but the CDV is also a huge factor and things are better when it's removed.

I installed a cdv last week. Noticed a difference in gear changes.

Nice! When my car was still under motorplan I wanted to fit one of these modified CDV's since it does not "appear" to be a CDV delete. But it's cheaper and easier to just delete if a car is no longer on motorplan.
