Unfortunately a few days ago, my M3 got stolen. Looks like the thieves have taken advantage of the security flaw on the OBD Port which allows key cloning on the spot. It's scary to see how quick it was for them to take my car.

I believe BMW has a firmware update to fix the OBD port when your car is locked. So would advise you to get that booked it asap. Have really lost faith in BMW now, which is such a shame because i loved the M3. To make matters worst, BMW warranty won't even give me a refund for the remainder of the 6 months I had left as I made a claim this year in May. Part of their policy apparently.

Now looking to get a C63 AMG.

Here's some footage from my CCTV.

Unfortunately an old problem. Apparently only on RHD cars :fencelook:
Hoping no one in SA is smart enough to do this.

What models does this affect???

Is it only later generation 3 series, 5 series and 1 series, or can this be done to e46 and other older generation BMWs.

Also, notice the time difference between the two videos. Almost an hour passes before they come back for the car.

Anyone know why?

As far as I know they need to gain access to the OBD port which as we all know is below our driver side steering on the right.

So, either the car was unlocked or the owner lost his key to his car and these asswipes tracked the car down.

Reprogramming the key takes less than 10mins. So my only thought is that they maybe waited for a cooldown period, unless they live far away to code it.

I stand to be corrected but E46 keys have to get cut and programmed with another original key, or bmw have the transponder key code which they will provide only after extensive proof of ownership. They charge about R2500 for another key, but you could have one cut and coded for about R1800.

I saw the 1M get boosted a while ago, pretty scary stuff

Hi Andy. Do you know where to get a key cut and coded for that price as i need a second key. Just don't want to take it to some dodgy people as i don't trust them.

Thats is just sick to watch!!!!:argh:

Im so sorry bud and I wish you the best of luck sorting everything out.

Anyone know why they were pushing the car if they had a clone key? (Did they not want to alert anybody by starting it?)

You push the car down the street so the owner doesnt hear it start up.
I dont think the e46 would be as affected as you still need a physical key to start it, this vulnerability seems to rather attack keyless go systems.

Few ways to sort out this problem, remembering seeing a movie where a dude had a python or a crazy azz monkey live inside your car:roflol:
