E92 M3 'refresher' thread

I see the van der linde job as that big dip at low rpm. But then the maps Sherwin showed didn't have these with a decat?

I dunno what's the correct approach to be honest...

Decat on stock software has the dip in torque. Wasn't that the moral of the story?

Yes, software will fix the dip I'm sure!

Maybe it's tuned (the stock sw) for the NED cycle to produce low CO2 at that point in the rev range... Or for pass by noise....

Hi

Becareful with x pipe that you go for. Xpipe in wrong position result in a nice dip in low down torque.

As a comparison. My friend M3 with vande linde exhaust ran exactly same software as sherwin 4 door M3 running xflow pipe. From rolling runs sherwin cab opened at least 2 to 3 cars before the gap remained same.

We couldnt believe it. Xflow went as far to borrow us x flow exhaust made for a customer and immediately the car became alive at low rpms.

Ah ok, so I should consult Alister then...

The software won't remain stock on the car, so I'm not worried about whatever emissions things were done at stock.

Thanks for the info gents!

OK excellent!

Well, before playing with the tune on the car I decided to take a step back to get the bearings done rather. Dyno's have a way of working a car really hard and if that's what I'm going to be doing I'd want the comfort that I'm not going to blow the motor.

So, bearings are being ordered from VAC now. I hate the exchange rate at the moment...

For interest sake VAC price vs OEM, as a percentage ?

I'd say all in that the VAC bearings are about double the price of OEM. That being said I get very good prices from BMW on their bearings.

Oh? I thought OEM was more expensive? But in this case, not!

I suppose if you were to buy in the U.S. The difference would be a lot less. But as usual, our shitty ZAR is the main issue so it's hardly a reliable yardstick :roflol:

But then.... How much better are the VAC Motorsport compared to the OEM facelift bearings? The facelift E92 M3 did have a bearing part number change from what I know.... Honest question here..

The number change was due to bearings not having lead. European emissions laws stated all lead had to be stopped. That's why oil samples and analysis on the new bearings don't help. With the old bearings you would get a patern with each oil change / analysis and could tell with the lead % if things were going wrong... not anymore unfortunately. ..

All replacement bearings for the S65 and S85 are the 702 and 703 type. Bearings from BMW costs me Just over R4k for a set. Then you still add bolts and sump gasket to the mix.

VAC bearings landed will be around R7500 after all is said and done. Then you still get bolts and sump gasket.
