Last outing at Kyalami a guy had a awesome looking 335 in full race gear and could only manage 2-3 hot laps after heat soak and limp mode popped up, he packed his gear back in the wagon and went home. If the car could manage the heat better this car would be awesome around the track with semi's, M diff and coil overs.

What about the Xcede M3s? Sherwin, you used to track your 335i regularly but I cannot remember seeing you take your M3 onto the track. I would also relish competing against a modified E90/E92 M3.

I did take my M3 around a while back & did 2:06 on the old circuit on road tyres.

My 335 the best was 2:09 but you could only get 1 flying lap before the oil temps put it into limp.

2:06 is a very good time on the old circuit with street tyres. I am pretty sure that you used to run semis on the 335i, knowing you it was probably chipped at well. I'd be interested in your views regarding the difference in laptimes. Understeer? Turbo lag?

Putting a good lap together also requires a bit of good luck, or should I say lack of little mistakes/traffic and only having one lap at a time would also make it difficult to set a good time during a day's driving (maybe 25 laps).

Sherwin, was that a pre-facelift N54? Which year model?

Hi

How is your M running? Did you manage to sort out that over heating problem / oil temp problem ?

Wow, AlpinaB3, your M3 looks dangerous :)
Post some more pics please...

Here is a pic that I took today. I test fitted some full slicks, 280/18 front and 305/18 rear. Works perfectly.

@AlpinaB3: Saw your car out on the track today, looked and sounded awesome, a total beast

Still need to look through my photos, if I have nice one of your car out on the track I will post it up for you

@AlpinaB3 I know this is gonna sound dumb but where do you get you tires? My car should be arriving soon and I feel like an idiot looking for track tires

Thanks for the compliment. I achieved my goal of beating my previous best laptime achieved in my ex E46 M3 CSL (1:12.92). I managed a 1:11.90x in the E92 M3 and had a great time driving ; the car handled awesomely. The time was achieved on semi slicks (235/18 front and 265/18 rear) ; my brother's used full slicks were useless on his car and caused him to have an off-track excursion that broke his front bumper. I decided not to risk my M3 with those dicey full slicks - what a shame, I really wanted to blow everyone's mind with the full slicks.

I'd really appreciate your track pics.

Semi slicks can be purchased from 1st Race (a division of AutoQuip) ; their number is (011) 634-7600

Thanks for the pics Uber Soldat. I really love the one from the front, looks like you slowed down the exposure time and tracked the car beautifully to keep it sharp while the background becomes a bit unfocused.

With your permission, I'd like to re-post this pic on my Track-TV forum. Obviously full credit will be given to you

Taking good action pics is not easy, a proper SLR camera is almost essential ... and then you still have to learn how to make good use of all those capabilities and options.

You're more than welcome to re-post it. Glad you like it.

@Sankekur - +1 to what Alpina said. Takes time to learn the art of track photography. I think that piece of cast iron wasn't helping you so much yesterday. :)

Yup I did have a proper SLR, but I am still lacking in terms of skill, granted this was the first time doing this kind photos, so hopefully I will still get better :)

@uber: Yup it was not helping, and I am thinking that the other lens was a bit too wide for proper shots, well at least not till I get a better at focussing and tracking the cars properly.

Edit: Oh and alpina, hopefully i can get to meet you next time :thumb:
