Lolol intro sounds good. Well clutch in, shift really fast from 1st to 2nd , except after 2 or 3 times of shifting like that, you hear a really whinning sort of grating noise and 2nd gear is blocked, almost as if the gate to 2nd is non exsistant. The car has been into bmw and the replaced clutch, pressure, flywheel and oil but the issue seems to be worse so im stumped

Eish.. Sounds like a bad syncro. And BMW do not sell syncro's for ///M gearboxes seperately, you have to have an entirely new gearbox. Not 100% certain it is your syncroes with those symptoms. Could be a problem in your linkage, or worst case your pressure plate isn't releasing the disk completely. When does this most commonly happen, only when the car is cold or always.

This happened to my previous BMW after I supercharged her. Too much power for the standard box. 3rd gear would get a grinding sound when going in. The Syncro died and I had to replace the box.

Does it always do this or just a few times?

Welcome to the forum BTW>

it happens everytime i drive the car hard, which is usually most of time, i do however to wait for the respective oil temps etc and then drive for a bit before i start to hammer it. its weird because after the 1st 2 quick changes from 1st to 2nd, it starts to grind, i also assumed it was the synchro's however bmw thinks otherwise. they replaced the oil, clutch and pressure plate and even the flywheel, seems to have made it worse. the only time i will get the gear in once it starts to grind, it by waiting for the revs to drop, almost like rev matching with the box

My money's on synchro = stukkend.

Here's a few questions - before it started doing this, did you miss-time 1st-2nd shifts and had a bad mechanical grind trying to go into second, while already revving up the engine again? Was it just grinding a bit going into second before it refused to take up the gate altogether?

If the answer is yes to either of these questions, then yes, you've wrecked the synchromesh. BMW need to replace the gearbox if it's still under plan. Alternatively, there's a place in Joburg called Erlemanns Gearbox Engineering. They specialize in VW / Audi, but can rebuild most boxes - A synchromesh kit SHOULD be available from ZF directly.

Did the mechanic go for a run with you during the handback of the car?
Was this not noticeable then, that it was worse ?

Send it back and tell them to sort

The more I think of it, the more I believe its your Synchro mate. :thumbdo:

If your car is under motorplan, I'd make BMW take the gearbox out and open it... Then you'll see for sure.
