Part only around R3400 then you need to add oil and labour (oil is going to be quite a lot as well)

What happened? And remember not to take chances and drive it with low oil, you don't want to know how much that will be.

I believe its a plastic part, so if you drove over something, or it got hit by something it could have cracked.

Shouldn't the car still be on motorplan? Let the stealers deal with it. I know I cracked the sump and played innocent, it got replaced :)

Nathan,

If you have some time and want to save some bucks, go hang around second hand gearbox shops and look for failed gearbox's, somebody should be able to help you out with one for a couple of R100's.

But you are going to battle to find at scrapyards, simply cause they would want to sell you the entire box.

What you could do is, if you are sure that it is the gearbox sump itself, you can take off the sump and see if somebody can repair it for you, if it is steel, then any engineering works can do it, if it is plastic, find somebody that can do plastic welding, and just have it fixed.

By the way, as depressed as you are now, this forces you to change the oil in that gearbox, which is a very very good thing, change the oil now using the right oil, and its good for another 120,000... Better this then your gearbox failing at 150,000 or something.

Good luck man

Whatever you do, don't get a secondhand sump. The filter is integrated in the sump, so the whole sump has to be replaced with a service anyway. It is also about time for your gearbox oil service (should be done at 80000km, but I doubt BMW have done it). I wouldn't buy a secondhand filter from something that failed for any purpose. Apart from that, I agree with Leonard.

I am suffering from the same ordeal on my 330i e92. Its about R5000 (all incl) from the agents to get the sump replaced. What if I went via a gearbox expert (outside the agents) to replace the sump with a new one? Do you think its advisable?
