E90323i Misfire & Rough Idle

I have a 2007 E90 323i manual. No MP. Was fine on way to work yesterday morning. I Drove it midday for about 2km and then parked. When it started 2 hours later the idle was rough and Engine was vibrating. I drove car back to work but couldn't drive more that 2nd gear because of traffic. I noticed that there wasn't much power as well. Anyone experience anything like this? Will appreciate any advice before I take car to BMW.

It could just be a dead spark plug or coil pack. Get someone to diagnose via the OBD port which will tell you which cylinder is misfiring. If you can DIY, swap the coil pack on the misfiring cylinder to another cylinder. If the misfire follows the coil pack, replace it. If the misfire stays with the cylinder, the spark plug is dead and should be replaced. If the spark plugs have done more than 80000km, replace them all.

Had a similar problem with my 323i, was related to sludge build up which eventually damaged my oil pump. Car moved awesome after the repair.
BMW service intervals are too far apart :nonono: and these cars need to be driven hard once in while

I would also check coils and plugs as mentioned - best to have diagnostics to see if there is a misfire, and yes, these engines don't like the lengthy oil services, so change the oil more frequently! Might be worth cleaning the Vanos solenoids too.

I've just serviced my car, plugs, filters, fresh oil, and the difference is night and day!! I had a slightly rough idle when cold and no lowend torque whatsoever, now this thing is flying :) . Will have vanos solenoids cleaned next.

Might be worth servicing your car (if you haven't already) and taking it from there, but do get codes read to take out any guesswork
