Last week, a truck rear-ended me and my 320d has been written off.

Looking for some advice on a new vehicle. Budget up to 250k.
Wondering what would be a good buy between a 5 series, 3 series or x1/x3.

As new as possible with as low mileage as possible of course.

Ive been told that the X1's are not built that well so I'm hesitant to commit to that, but should I be aware of something else with the other 2 models?
From my autotrader browsing, seems like something from 2014-2016 would be available for all 3 ranges.

Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks all

I agree that the 320d is an excellent car, I would suggest though, if you can, go and drive a f10 LCI 520d. I was also considering a 320d about a year ago. After driving a 520d, I could not believe the night and day difference. Needless to say, I bought the 520d and never looked back. Not sure if you can find a clean one at 250k though, but worth a look

I also had to choose between F10 520d and F30 320d and after driving a fully loaded 2014 520d with 73k kms i eventually settled on a 2016 Lci 320d with 98k kms for similar money. The F30 did not have the sunroof that the 520 has but for me i was worried about the N47 motor versus the B47 motor having read about the timing chain problems with the first generation that came out in 2009 iirc. Must admit though that nowadays i wonder if i did the right thing. Other point that made me decide on the F30 was power to weight ratio but also must admit that even with my car now being mapped to about 460 Nm i rarely use the sport mode. Am sure that a 520d would have been enough for me. Miss my old E60 530d's very much!!

really hard to find a clean F30 320d nowadays, or in M sport guise at least, i have been trying to assist a friend recently, and theres some really poor examples out there, however if you do consider a non m sport or luxury line you might find a few.
i agree with the above, consider an F10 520d, or even a 530d if its within budget. the ride and comfort levels are definitely improved in the 5er.

I am sorry to hear about your E90 @novio

I can agree with @momo1 even when I was looking 2 years ago finding a M-Sport F30 320d in the spec I wanted was difficult. Prices also seem to have gone up by more than 20% on these models

If you can find one it is well worth it, I don't have a single complaint about the car, it's truly a great balance of power, comfort and looks.

The F10 5 Series ups interior quality at the expense of a little extra weight.

What about Mini's?
Reliable? I'm guessing because they are part of BMW that build quality will be similar?
They do seem cheaper.
Any ideas on service costs? On average I was paying 3.5k for standard service with the e90 at BMW.

My son has a 2015/6 F30 320d auto (pre Lci with N47 motor) that has on about 120k kms. He reeently mentioned that he might be selling as he has some other cars as well. It is in very good condition with newish runflat tires. He is out of the country at the moment but should you be interested i can contact him for further info. I have access to the car and can post pics if need be. Dark grey colour with black leather.

Man its a pity of the current market and car prices.
clean diesel Beema's prices are really ridiculous, compared to a year ago.

I would first decide whether you want a sporty and low sedan, or a more practical Suv from the X range.

F10's tend to be cleaner as they were bought more by more 'mature" buyers
F30'S and especially Msports are scarce as hell

would you look at X3's or X5's? The practicality especially with the current state of roads, and on top of it with no lights makes the X's attractive prospects.

Just from a quick look:

Wow... no clean F30's in this price range, with less than 120000km!
