E90 vs F30 vs F10

Hi Guys

Looking to buy one of these cars - just not sure which to choose

Options are : F30 320d, E90 330d , F10 520d

F10 being the most expensive and E90 being the cheapest..

E90 having the biggest engine - more KW and torque = more enjoyable to drive

I drive about 200kms a day - so the car is important. The most comfortable car is the 520d but not the most practical due to its size - not all parking spaces fit the car... besides I have a 535d already so do I want another 5 series? And the level of refinement between the 2.0d vs 3.0d is huge

I don’t like the ride quality of the F30’s (had a 328i) and the steering feel - I found my old 320d E90 felt more connected to the road...

So I am looking for the best car of the 3 - bearing in mind the car will be practically worthless after 5 years due to KMs - but I am looking for the best option

What do you guys think?

What would you choose?

make sure it's the LCi motor. N57 i think.

no replacement for displacement!!!

That’s the facelift version right? 2010 up?

Must say my heart is edging to the E90 as well - I saw a decent one with a Motorsport kit 2011 and white - ticks all my boxes

I was in the same boat earlier this year. Ended up getting an E90 330d and I couldn’t be happier with my decision.

I say get a E90 330d!
They make loads of smoke once they tuned proper! Torque is fun! My torque in the 20d is lekker so can't even imagine how a 30d feels like!

My view is different and not because I own a F10. I had an E90 before too. If you are buying something to suit need and that is to be comfortable with effeciency, than I would go with the F10 because there is simply no way that you can compare the comfort levels of the two. If I was doing 200km a day, it would definitely be in the 5er over the 3's.

Your decision shouldn't be based around performance. Besides, the 520d doesn't move like a 1300cc in the least. Not the nimblest, but more than adequate for comfort and if you want some more grunt, some software will definitely see you through without costing a kidney.

Not trying to step on anyone's toes, but unless you have owned both, you will never know the real difference. I moved from my E90 to an E60 before my F10. It didn't feel like a bigger car. It felt like a different brand altogether, due to the overall quality being that vast. The market segment for the 5er is completely different, hence the additional refined approach. Without doubt, it comes at a price but since price isn't part of the consideration between the 3 options, I would place my butt into a luxury vehicle if I was doing 200km of travel per day.

Finally, our roads are dangerous with all the crappy drivers out there. Having added safety around you and being heavier gives you advantage in the possibility of a crash.

The F10 is an all round better car than the other two. Also seen that you have a diesel monster already, I would say, take the 520d

Even though I would advise OP on 330d purely for that Meaty torque , I have to agree here, I've driven an F10 and they are quite special in their own right, almost effortless drive and the ride quality is miles ahead more comfortable than an E90.

I also think the OP has already made his mind up. And would b leaning towards the 330d.

But also, when i do think about it properly, if i was driving 200km a day, I'd probably wana b in a 520d

buy a 135, the 200km drive will be like morning sex, the best part of your day:fencelook:

Yeah and the petrol bill will be like looking for a morning after pill...

I drive a 328i F30 and it’s costing me R1000 per month more than if I owned a diesel...

Over 60months that’s R60k+ extra

For me Diesel is the only way...

I am torn to be honest - the F10’s are brilliant value for money - it’s a lot of car for R250k

My 535d is truly an amazing car the ride is incomparable to the F30...

And it’s a very sexy looking car...

Just worried about the places I go to where parking spaces might be a little tight and to be honest I think the additional torque of the 3.0d motor makes traveling more relaxed

Even when I had my E90 320d it still needed a little revving at times - but it still went like a Golf GTI.

The only thing I didn’t like about the car was brakes and mine was a plain Jane

I like the M Sport package personally even if our roads are not that great

If I get the F10 it must be white and M Sport with Paddle shift with 100k on the clock - it must be a little specd

If I get the E90 it must have a MSport package with SR and white also around 100k 2011 preferably

The 5er is bigger than the 3er but I think with parking as a factor its not as bad. The F10 platform is very very far away from the E90. It is truly and amazingly leaps and bounds ahead. For someone doing the mileage you do day it is really a no brainer.

Get into the 5 series and enjoy ministerial level comfort to and from your various journeys. The 520D is more than sufficient in terms of power and cruising.

The question you should be asking is what colour 520d should I be getting :roflol:

Good luck with your 520d

When in doubt the answer is always yes.
