I thing i may have the same problem, did you have any vibration on the steering wheel?

Did you hit any pot holes?

This was on the rear, so no vibration on the steering wheel. The shop guys told me i was lucky not to have driven too long with the thing as ..well ..imagine the rear wheel being able to turn left and right !
I dont remember hitting a pot hole but with the state of our raods its possible...no mag dammage was noted though.....costs was at R900.00 to fix ( one tension bolt and a new cv boot + labour)
its scary to think that this "bolt" can snap off like that.....mind you....ur suspension being loose ( rear swaying left and right) is exactly what i had experienced.
I still dont know the cause though.
I suggest you have your vehicle lifted and an inspection of the integrity of the control arms carried out.
good luck !

Lucky you picked this up soon rather than later.

I called my mech and he said that it could be the alignment due to the vibration i feel at 120km/h. Having it sent to a tyre place i just called, they will do a visual check and do alignment and free balancing.

Will update tomorrow

I'm taking mine back to the panelbeaters for the same problem in 2 days' time. It was in a pothole accident in December and both front and rear have been giving problems since it came back from the authorised panelbeaters. The dealership (Leo Haese Hatfield- who have been great at solving my other problems), found that BOTH suspensions were loose. They fixed it, but in 2 hours it was loose again.

The panelbeaters are being hostile so far, but let's see how things go on Thursday.:nonono:

Those arm bolts are notorious for breaking. Had mine replaced last month. Fortunately, on the 335 the rear bolt is still held in by the bushing. But the bolt will not fall out but does not tighten completely. Decided to only have the car alignment done at bmw dealer from now onward...under MP of course. Can be expensive:nonono:

I've been to the panelbeaters. On the front, it turns out that they should replaced the steering rack during the panelbeating. Insurance has agreed to pay for a new one.

On the rear, some stuff was replaced by the previous owner - I think they said control arms - but the work was sub-standard and is disintergrating. Motorplan has agreed to pay for this work.

You seem to be in the MP good books.
I'm surprised they will pay for the rear or did the prev owner have the work done by bm?

I bought the car used from BMW Approved Used, so even if the previous owner messed up, they still honour it because I bought it from them. Anyway I don't know if the previous owner had used them for this work or not.

On the rear, it's actually the Bushings that have been replaced. The front still vibrates a bit - I think something got bent in the pothole accident.

Do you have a pic?

Anyone have a diagram showing which part is being referred to?
