e90 sporadic dash warning lights

Morning Fanatics

I drive a 2010 e90 325i and the car’s warning lights for everything brake/tyre related lit up both yesterday morning and this morning. After driving a couple of km’s and I switch the car off and on, the lights don’t appear again. I thought it might have been a electrical/technical memory glitch more so because the lights did not come on when I went home in the afternoon but 2 days in a row is a bit concerning. Another funny is that the vehicle info is not picking up any anomalies so I’m not sure what’s going on. I tried doing my research and came across this thread http://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=48286 so not sure if they are related.

Excuse the dusty car/pics :fencelook:

Thanks

Hey bud. Nope not related at all. How old is your battery? And how often does this happen? Only when standing overnight ect ect

Hi Pho3nix90
The battery was replaced under MP +-15000km ago which was in Jan this year. The problem only started yesterday and it happens when the car has stood overnight. The car feels and drives normally even with the xmas lights on. The car is due for a rear break change in 4300km but I have changed pads before without the car doing this.

Do you have a multimeter to test voltages of your battery in the morning? This sounds like a battery issue.

It drains overnight, you start the car and not enought juice for all electronics to function properly thus the car disables them. Now the alternator is charging the battery, that is why when you switch the car off and on again the errors are gone.

This is just a theory though. Could also be that the alternator isn't charging the battery properly, but I would check voltages first.

Where are you based?

if you do not have a multimeter just make a turn at your nearest battery place, let them quickly test the battery. It takes about 10min. I know you replaced it a year and a half ago, but batteries struggle in the winter. It will cost you nothing to rule this out first.

I recently picked up the same issue as well but mine followed replacement of rear brakes amd disks. When i had codes read, it showed
5DB2
Wheel speed sensor pulse wheel (rear left)
plausibility – tooth fault every wheel revolution

Turns out there is a tooth/teeth on the wheel bearing which the wheel speed sensor reads off. Sometimes dirt can accumulate on the teeth which interupts the reading taken by the sensor. This situation will give the exact same warning lights you show in your first picture.

Either that or your wheel speed sensor itself.

The suggested first option to resolve the dirt on teeth issue is to spray alot of degreaser around the rear of the brakes focussing on the end of the drive shaft and bearing area then washing it off with a pressure washer.

I havent tried this on mine yet as i havent had the time (i'm still driving with the warning lights) so i cant confirm that it will definitely work but its worth a try.

Hope that helps somewhat.
