E90 Spare Wheel Space In Boot

Bah!
I had a bum deal yesterday with a pothole in Rivonia.

Luckily the Dunlop dealership had a spare BMW wheel to lend while they order me new tires.

Potholes are bad news, my sidewall actually cracked. If this happens on the highway on the way to CPT from JHB you're pretty much stuffed. The mobility kit will be useless, and the gel cans will be even more useless.

One of the best options in my mind would be to get hooked up to the AA for these kind of things. It's fairly cheap, and they can bring a flatbed if the damage is bad enough.

BMW on call is excellent, but tbh, it only really helps when you're in towns or close enough to actually make use of the service.

Hey guys.

So I hit a pothole a couple of weeks ago :

Pirelli runflats.

Still drove about 80km back home. Was surprisingly stable at speeds up to 100km/h :fencelook:

Was soooo pissed when it happened :nonono:

Luckily didn't have my 19's on at the time :flyfun:

im also thinking about just keeping a spare in the boot but the space is an issue, but i think its still better than being stranded...

I also have a e90 (out of motor plan) had 2 blow-outs on separate occasions due to pot holes. I just called my insurance in less than 40 min one of their pink BMW's come and sort's it out . They don't replace my tires for me I have to pay for that myself and afterwards claim form gov. So if your car is insured find out if they offer this service some times we for get what we pay them for:=):.

Details sabertooth?

Part number, price...

I bought mine by Magsman here on the forum, he however does not have any more from what I heard. Check gumtree or at the Dealers, just take some lube with to the dealers.

also how do you claim from gov, do they actually pay,

not worth your time and blood pressure to pursue this.

Get a space saver kit, best of all it does not take that much space. I still manage to fit all my luggage in.
Just don't pack your boot too full. What happens if you get a flat & mount the space saver? You'll need space for the full size wheel

Or just tie the wife to the bonnet and put the wheel on the seat.

+1 on the space saver. Comes with a jack and everything in a neat package. Paid R3100 at stealers a year ago.
My insurance has roadside assistance which will help for the more serious stuff like two blow outs. I have used them in the past for a jump start when I forgot my lights on. Quick and hassle free.

If you lose two tyres like this you're screwed anyway (and it does happen, but not often). A mobility kit can help save the RF, but you have to carry a small compressor. Driving a tyre flat is file 13 material...:argh:

18 and 19 inch are prone to this happening and even bent mags. 16 inch is best for bad roads because they got more flex. chances of you having a 16 inch would be 80% this would not have happend

Have always wondered about this - really puts you in a tricky spot if you are not planning ahead! :nonono:
