E90 service schedules

Okie dokie, so I wanna post a question to all the e90 drivers (and those that know) out there.

As most of you are aware, we have an e90 in the family, and yesterday I had it booked in at SMG for, what the OBC called, a service. It also displayed 7000km in the service window.

This car had an oil change on just over 49 000km. So yesterday, they told me that the current service is just a brakefluid flush. On collection the car, they told me that the microfilter needs to be replaced in 2 months time, the front brakes in around 6000km time, the rear brakes in about 16000km time, and the next service is due in 19000km time.

Now my question:

Yesterday's little brakefluid flush amounts to R400.00. (Covered by motorplan.)
Obviously the brakes etc will be more.

Now, this is all covered under Motorplan, all good and well. What happens after Motorplan? One is going to pay alot for labour, for stuff that was usually part of a scheduled Inspection 2 service.

Yes, you are doing smaller thing on a regular basis, as compared to an Inspection 2 service for instance, so yes, the maintenance is staggered, but in the long run, you will be paying a hell of a lot more for labour.

Anyone driving a e90 out of Motorplan who would like to comment?

I had the same thing today.

My car is also still under Motorplan but not for too long! (75,000km)

I wondered about the same thing, I did a service not too long ago and I had a problem whereby the Netstar worn my battery down and I had to have my battery replaced. They also informed me that they are going to replace the Microfilter and some other things.

It was explained to me that they are only allowed to replace parts that are infact worn with every CSP(?) service. As the parts needs replacement, you'll have to take the E90 back and back again. With every service not, all of the parts are replaced.

No wonder everyone sells after 100,000km's!

Guys,

Yea true enough, my 7 actually displays what needs to be done when.

But, changing a cabin filter (unless its on an E36/E34) is a insanely easy job, brakes are just as easy, radiator flush does not take a genius either, changing the oil on a BMW is really really easy...

Invest in a service tool, and you can keep her maint schedules up to date as they should be.

If you tackle one job on saturday, you will still be able to go do stuff in the afternoon, most jobs can be done in under an hour.

BMW has done a brilliant job of designing service components from the E46 upwards..

I still dont know what the hell they were thinking about when they designed the cabin filter on the E34 though...

Well guys, I just picked up or E60 530D from its first service out of plan. All together, the service came to R2300 (R900 for air filters alone). Needs new brake pads as well (R2700). Can't see the E90 costing much more.

My E90 320i had its motorplan renewed twice, the last time costing me R20k for 20000km. Unless something major goes wrong, I really don't see myself paying more than that in maintenance.

Maybe worth running it off plan... I am probably going to do that. Put an aftermarket filter on it and it should reduce the service costs even further because you won't need to replace filters everytime... and you can still keep a FSH with BMW.

Well Not E90 but E90 Engine and there is no way that I will extend motorplan R20k for 20K. I looked at aftermarket Warrenties and there are so many exclusions and T&c's it is scary.

My last Service on my getz was R1800.00 Gizmo did my serice 3 days ago and it was sligtly more but he did more than the ever did on the getz.

Oil Filter
Fuel Filter
Air Fillter
Cabin Filter
Oil Change.

I think it also depends on where you get the parts.
Midas Again today and ATE front Pads are R400.00 for the set, @ BMW it is R1200.00 for the set.

I am a rep on the road and my car is my life but I have had so many run ins with Stealers about services that I refuse to go to them. I prefer getting to know an aftermarket Jokkie and deal with him. 2 Main reasons

1. If you pick well you find someone who does it not as a job but as a passion. Meaning they love what they do and don't have a boss that pissed them off, or a lunch brake they are late for, (Selaris Trekker)etc etc.
2. That jokkie gets 99.9% of his business from referals and he can not afford to loose you as client so he will do a better job than any dealer becuase his next meal depends on it.

Also try and call a dealer and ask for advice over the phone even if they just serviced you car... Good luck on that one. But call the Jokkie that did your service and I guarentee he will help you sort out the problem

Dont get me wrong there are guys out there that screw up but word of mouth is way stronger to me and means more that a flashy add or pamphlet handed out at a robot.

Two points further.
1.Altenator on getz went. Hyundai price R4500 excl vat. They told me it is a sealed Unit and can not be fixed.
Auto jokkie in belfast where i broke down. R480.00 including towing me 20Km. (Id did a nother 180 000km on that altenator)

The only thing that was wrong were brushes worn out.

2. Getz front barke pads + fitting at dealer.
Pads=R680.00Excl
Labour= R375Excl

I baught Forodo at Midas for R320.00 and payed a friend i case of beers to fit them.

Again just my opinion and my car is my Income.

As an after though I have just realised how much money I have waisted ofer the years becuase I was lazy and stupid about cars, all about convenience. If you have R20k spare for extended motorplan I bet you someone on this forum will be able to rebuild an entire engine with that. So put it in the bank or pay for the Tjop and Dop you are going to be sponsoring.
