E90 Service interval

Some people have done up to 45K km and OBC has not said it needs a service yet... and BMW wont service until OBC says it needs a service.

If the car is out of motorplan I would get it serviced every 15K km..

Can it really be 30 000 km's ?

Drive it harder and you will see that number be 20k or less

My 320d started off with the OBC saying 15k to next service I have done 3k and now its says 10k to next service.

The best I got in my 323i was about 20k before the OBC said its time for a service

Yeah it takes into consideration how long you spend idling the car so how much time you spend in traffic also considers how you drive the car have you got a lead foot alway red lining it where ever you go then your service intervil will be quite short

And if you drive it on open road a lot always at low revs cruising you service intervill will be more than 30k

I think its a good system though much better than just using distance

Its not a very complicated system - it allocates a certain amount of fuel in liters for a service interval, and then calculates km to the next service based on a rolling window average of your consumption. My car needs a service every 1250l.

p1000 well explained much better than the one I got from BMW

Thats a scary number so you have to spend about 13k on petrol before you can get your service free under motor plan:)

why did they not use rpm? surely a service should be done for a certain number of rpm...

(I assume you meant to say "revolutions" and not "revolutions per minute")

Fuel is a much more accurate feature to sum up all factors. Imagine if you are running WOT at 3000 rpm, the engine works much harder than freeing on a downhill at 5000rpm. In the end its the easiest, most reliable indicator.

wont the oil need replacing based more on rpm?
i guess the best would be to calculate when it needs to be dont based on fuelling and rpm i wander if they have/will do this on new cars...

Thanks guys, makes more sense now.

So BMW does not do annual service I take it. So it's possible to have your car serviced only once within Motorplan due to your driving style?

Me gonna drive it like I stole it

And then we wonder why engines develop sludge build-up!! Mine is only showing next service to be Jan next year or in the next 20k km! And have had the car for well over a year now - I am really keen to change the oil and filter on much shorter intervals, even though it is still under motorplan.

No, there is a date counter too, so either ___km or 1 year, whichever comes first.

It seems I have the heaviest foot around here, my intervals are every 11,000km :nonono:
