E90 Retroft Paddle Shift

Hi All,

I have just bought a 2010 335i sedan steptronic, which sadly does not have paddle shift. I have researched the web and it seems like there are alot of aftermarket options abroad. All that is needed is a new wheel with shifters and a wiring harness, no re-programming - 100% plug and play and supposedly takes between 1 and 2 hours.

I was wondering whether any of you guys have done this - locally. According to the forums this can be done to all steptronic cars including E46.

Thanks

J

i'm sure you will need some kind of programming to do this retrofit :dunno:

What about the BMS one revo?
And will the paddles fit my existing steering wheel (M-sport one)?

I have browsed through quite a number of these (DIY Forum posts) on the web and no one needed to do any programming.

The bms one isn't a complete retrofit kit... so you can't just fit it and then change gears
There are some other oem parts you will require, which includes a steering wheel with the paddles, as you can't use your stock wheel (the extra parts probably costing over R6k)
The kit is only a harness to allow you to fit the new s/wheel with paddles without coding.
If you do the retrofit through the dealers, they will have to program the car.
This is what I've heard from guys that have fitted.

@JirenM
Don't do the paddleshift. It is nothing but a useless appendix.
I agree with Revo...DS it is....The car shifts quicker in DS mode...if you want to shift at the redline then you can still do DS & change gear 1 - 2 - 3 etc...But how often or ever will you do this...i can see you on the dragstrip maybe but DS will give same results...just my two cents

I wish i can rip out my paddles...:banghead:

Thanks guys,

I am going to put this on hold for now.

@Revo, just incase I go crazy at a later stage and want to fit it on - do you know which dealership the guys fitted it at

Think software will have to go first

I Agree with Twinz.... the paddles are a total waste... i have absolutely no use for them. only use them when i race, but even then select DS and shift normally if no real need for the paddles.... i can only see it useful on the MDCT when you on a circuit racing!!
