Hi Guys

A cousin of mine has owned his E90 since new and yesterday his daughter managed to lock the keys in the car ok no problem go inside find the spare and try to open it, no such luck the key refused to work, called the insurance company who sent out a locksmith and he said he has come across this plenty of times with the E90 range, where the dealer supply’s a spare key which is actually brand new and uncut or coded, so you still stuck because it doesn’t work Lol. Anyway guys just check your keys and make sure it works.

The e90 key "charges" while in the ignition.

I remember when I bought my e90, the salesman told me to swop between the spare every 4 months or so so itbretains the charge and settings.

The Mini's also have the same issue but once the key gets discharged you gotta get a new one :nonono:

Apparently you can charge you key with a toothbrush charger or a powermat, all work on the inductive charging principle

Salesman told me to do the same.
My 4 months is overdue. Thanks for the reminder.

Yep, technically there is no "spare" key, just two keys that need to actually be cycled (the exception of course being comfort access which does not have a rechargeable battery) every now and again. But finding the physical key uncut is very odd - maybe a replaced "spare" key that was not cut, just programmed?!

I normally swap mine every month or two. What I have done twice is open the boot with the boot button. Do some work in the boot. Happened while changing tailights. And close the boot locking the keys in the boot.
