Hi guys and girls.
How long can my E90 330i be standing in the garage without being driven?
I drive a company car and sometimes my baby stands still for a long time.
Is this bad for the vehicle?:thumbdo:
Thanks.

Don't let it stand too long, if you can try and get it out, like nick says, every other day.Not good for the oil and other fluids to stand.

At least start it and let it idle for a bit to get warm and get the water/oil circulating, keeps the battery up as well.

Sir, I'd be more than happy to take her out for a stroll now and again.
I'll pop over to your house, bring you a six pack.

While you sit back and relax, I will sacrifice my time and energy to take your pride and joy out and stretch her legs...

You're welcome!

Good question, i wasn't aware that its not a good idea to let the car sit in the garage... I also sometimes go for a week without starting mine...

It's never healthy to keep a car parked for extended periods of time but its also to healthy to start it up and let it idle for 5mins in the garage while it warms up and then cut the motor and come back another day to repeat the process, if the engine doesn't reach full operating temperature through operation you will do more damage as caustic condensate mixes with the oil and settles in the exhaust system, I would rather invest in a set of jack stands, get all four wheels of the ground, disconnect the battery and let her rest, when you need to use the car then put it back on its wheels, check pressures end go for a blast...

Ps. Monitor your oil levels carefully as well before usage...

If its getting used on the weekends then that's fine, also 2 weeks is not too long. Don't start it and just let it idle, this is much worse than it sitting for a few weeks. We have a car at our holiday place, have owned it since 2000. It sits the whole year and gets used in Dec, sometimes its 2 years, we just service it every year or 2 and keep the battery charged. It starts first time every time.

Also the jeep up here in jhb, my dad uses it every now and then, usually once a month. Just keeps it connected to a trickle intelligent charger when not in use.

I would say if its going to sit for 3 to 6 months at a time, I would get it on some jack stands to keep the tires from flat spotting

try drive it every week and make sure its a longish drive so the oil gets up to temp... not the end of the world is it stands for two weeks but rather try drive it every week :)

Take it to work one day a week you will probably find you have a nicer day when you do

My 330i also stands in the garage sometimes, but I never start it and idle it up, rather take it for a proper drive longer than 10 minutes so that all fluids can move around properly with the engine and everything up to proper operating temperature! The infamous HVA noise on some N52 engines I am convinced is from frequent short trips where the engine is not allowed to reach proper operating temperature, and also granny-driven a bit too much.

Other things to consider, especially this time of the year, is the battery - mine is on its last legs, so even a few days and I can hear slower cranking speeds!

Conclusion, if it's 5 days or more, I would say that's pushing it, but less than that it should be fine for the car to stand.

BTW, where's your car intro thread?! With lots of pics! :)
