e90 n54 engine knock! best bmw engine builders in the western cape??

Hi i am looking to buy a 2007 e90 335i auto with 143000kms.
It drives fine but it has a engine knock between 2500-3000 rpm. You only hear it if you step on it kinda WOT. It drives fine if you drive slow. No knock on startup...(its been standing about 3 months now coz he does not drive it with that problem)
The guy told me it happend shortly after he took the car is and someone set the timing on the engine and it made the noise a few days later.
What do you guys think is wrong?
Are there any well known bnw engine builders that offer warrwnty in the western cape?
What can the bill $$$ be just a guess?
Im just thinking if i do this i know what i have got.
The car is in good nic and has all the extras i want.
Your advice is apresheated!

Engine knock could mean an engine rebuild....Personally I wouldn't go near it but that's just me.

If you do want the car though I would take the car to BMW and have them do some tests on it and find out what exactly is wrong with it, could be something simple or it could be an engine rebuild in which case you should probably leave it as that will be a VERY costly affair, 100k plus from what I have read, I could be wrong? I'm sure someone else will chime in with some real cost figures.

How does one change the timing on a 335i?

Sounds like a money pit to me, or one hell of a track car build maybe?

Guess it comes down to the initial price of the car, I assume it is very cheap, which could justify adding a new motor in there?

Walk Away Swiftly.

With the money you could put into the car with parts and labor you could buy one without any issues.
