E90 Motorsport Suspension

I recently bought an E-90 330i M-Sport Package. Having used it this holidays to travel to the coast I am delighted with the cars overall performance. I am actually a little disappointed with the hardness of the suspension and / or combination of run-flats and tyre presure.

Any suggestions?

I will swop you my E90's stock suspension for your car's sport suspension he he

The run-flats ride pretty hard!! If you looking for a more comfortable ride most of the guys swop to normal tires.

Thats the catch 22 hear, you get the sports suspension but you get the hard ride with it.
We changed our previous car to non runflats and to be totaly honest i duno whats the big difference, i still felt the ride hard and really wasn't the Big change everyone else seems to feel.
My e46 and parents e90's are all sports and i have normal tyres and them rf's but they all feel hard.

The Sport Suspension is hard, but it gives you a great direct feel for the road. Munich has the 18" RFT on and you feel every little bump and stone, but I love it, feels like a real 'sport saloon'. Guess it depends on the drivers taste. And it corners, you point it in a line through a corner and it will stick to it like 'klitsgras' to a wool blanket. :clap:

I agree that our road surfaces are crap to say the least, specially here in Mpumalanga. Love driving the car in the Cape thou, best roads left in the country! :thumbsup:

I hate the Ride in my E90 - I love sport suspension but this is ridiculous to say the least - our roads (especially with the roadworks "designed for bakkies).

Agreed Mike, one of the reasons I bought the Navara.

This is one of the reasons i still prefer the E46 to the E90... Suspension is hard, especially on the sports pack!

My uncle had (traded it in for a 2011 335i last week) a E90 330 sports-pack and we where going to Sun city for Christmas weekend so we swapped cars for the drive there, i hated the E90. My uncle said that even with my 19's, my car was much smoother and comfortable than his E90, i agreed...

My car is a E46 individual (im sure its got a sport suspension as its lower that the normal E46's) and I have 19's with a 35 profile. He had 18" runflats with a 40 profile i think.

can you put normal tires on the E90, I was told it messes up the runflat sensors, oh and you will naturally have to invest in a sparewheel.

I can confidently say the facelift e90's Sport Suspension is a hell of a lot better than the pre-facelifts with regards to stiffness. The Dynamics ride quality is MUCH better than the '07's...

i feel the ride in the E90 isnt bad, it is stiff but like said above, you point the car and it goes there, no hassles. my audi was a bit stiff with even no sport suspension ad 45 profile 17 inch tyres. but the BMW and Audi suspensions are totally different as i learnt now.

i was lucky with my car being a very late 2008 model, i got all the LCi bits, in an E90 body lol

Heres a odd scenario if i can call it that , i have a E90 330d MSport.
It came stock with 18s and runflats and i wanted change so i fitted Bridgestone non runflat 19s with the BMW CSL style wheel.

This is the odd part car ride is so much smoother and far less bumpy to be honest i was really shocked considering these where 19s and expected a harsh ride only to get the complete opposite. Car ride is very smooth and handling is just to phenomenal and no guys changing to non runflats does not mess up sensors. I have mine with the 19s on for a while now and no issues even at the dealer.

From the folks i chat to all say the same and say runflats are nasty and thats what causes that harsh ride.

+1... you add unsprung weight to the suspension of the car with runflats. Apparently late 2008 suspension changes on the 'Sport suspension' was made to better the ride quality with the runflats. There is a huge inprovement from the '07 320d msport to the '10 320d Dynamic. Both cars has the 18" wheels, the '07 had Pirrelis on and the '10 has Michellins.

The ride quality on the Dynamic is 100x better than the '07's. By the way, my Father-In-Law just bought a '07 325i Sport with the 17" runflats, and it has a better ride quality than what my '07 had with the 18" wheels....

If you guys are part of the 'BMW Owners Circle' you will see that there was a 'tyre program' run by BMW up until 15 Jan 2011 where they asked owners of BMW's to test diffrent makes of tyres and give feedback etc. I'm trying to get a copy of the final report and findings from Pinnacle and will post as soon as get some feedback.
