Yep!! As I said above, I can get to Howick on a tank then need to fill up.

But the car is amazing in Durban!! The only way I can kinda explain it is if you use the M button in Jhb, thats what the car is like in Durban without using the M button.

And the sound of it is something else, like there is an exhaust fitted!!

I do envy the guys that own it and live at the coast.

Talking about all this, i think I am going to use my m down next weekend

I love the JHB jealousy of our coastal air:rollsmile:

It really is a different experience in Durban, I took my car to JHB once on a trip and I can safely say it will never see the reef again under my ownership

Because you lame....

Took my ///M to the coast for the Durban July. Total fuel spend, just under R7000 :roflol: I actually find it funny. Thats over about 1300km covered in total.

Best feeling ever!!

Bru, I am heading to Durbz in two weeks with the V10 and seeing that fuel spend, YOH!!! :skit:

I doubt you bought it for its economy?

Don't stress. I was being silly all weekend long. Realistically, depending on your movements of course, you'll need about 1.5 tanks going down, and 1.75 back up. You might top up a little as you drive around that side.

At the very least, you should spend around R3000 - R3500.

That is true however I didn't expect my fuel economy to Durbz to be the main driver of oil price increases in the middle east.

Well that sounds reasonable :ty:

Gentlemen first of all I must say it was the best decision ever to go down with the M, Geeeez it was so fun, the M exhaust at the coast sounded like a lion roar:blowheart: loved it man.

I filled up sunday evening at centurion west, monday morning about 4:30am I was hitting the road, with triplets under 6 year on the back sit, my wife and I and a fair load in the boot, with a cruising speed of between 140/150kh I managed to get to Caltex garage 7km before Harrismith with a quarter empty.

I filled up which took us all the way to Durbs and still had quarter left to do rounds. I refilled last night for the trip back this morning, which got us to the same caltex garage on the return side of the highway, this time less than quarter of a tank, something like 130km to go, filled up and then arrived back in centurion west with a quarter tank.

basically i filled up 4 times to the value of +-2300 excluding the toll gates costs. not bad at all, this is way less than what I had budgeted for.

This was the longest trip ever we have done with the M, now I am sitting on 52600KM, time for the beast to rest probably the longest distance for him for the rest of the year.

Thanks guys for all your advices

Nice, How did you manage to fit 3 car seats in the back of an ///M, i find theres not enough space for 2 in my E60, considering the things that kids need during a long trip.

I have the same challenge but now that they're turning 6 in November, I find them big enough to be strapped on their own with a some cushions support we put on the seats. but still they struggle with the part that goes accross into the locker. it basically crosses right under their neck which often makes them uncomfortable.

I generally get around 9 or 10 litres per 100kms at those speeds on the highway.

My son is turning 6 and we still use a full car seat ( personal preference) as he is still within the weight limit. But the next step would be the booster seat which would reduce the comfort issue regarding the belt.

if they feel the belt is uncomfortable or too high up and close to the neck, it would cause more harm than good in an accident.

I agree with you, It's always a mission to travel with them, especially for long trips as they get annoyed easily.

This is very dangerous. The belt can choke them, or even worse in the event of an accident. My son is 7, and he is short. As my car comes with built in booster seats, they stay up all the time. My daughters is 13 and 11, and my 11 year old also prefers to sit on the booster seat. I miss my 3 series, but with more than 2 kids I just cant fault my Dodge.

How many seat belts do you have at the back?

3 seat belts at the back I have a sedan variant, E90 M3 in case you wondering how do I carry 3 kids at the back, It's not E92/3 which have only two as they're coupe variants.

I have taken both the E90 and E92 M3 down to Durbs on a full tank, got to Queensburgh with about 60km on the range, and no I wasn't driving like a granny, I wasn't driving like I stole it though too.

Only car I could never get to DBN on a full tank was the X5M.

My typical DBN trip I use 3 full tanks and cover about 1500kms return.

Went down to north coast (Ballito) in X4 3.0D, was between 1/4 and 1/2 when I got there. Must add I had the cruise control on and drove through the night, took 6 hours though.

Not bad at all, took the X3 2.0d down and was there in "under" 5 hours, was on slightly less than half a tank left, the diesels are amazing on the longer trips.
