e90 LCI Front Passenger Seat Belt Warning

I wanted to find out if anyone knows whether the e90 LCI has the seat belt warning gong for the front passenger? I'm pretty sure when i bought the car on one occasion when my wife didn't have her seat belt on, the warning gong was sounded and I saw the display change red with the seat belt warning sign. But that was once, now if there is someone in the passenger seat, there is no warning gong or seat belt sign shown.

BMW tells me that it was removed on the LCI. Anyone here can confirm?

Thanks guys. I was just a bit concerned, thought it might be defective. My main concern was that if someone was sitting there and if the sensor doesn't pick that up, then if an accident were to happen the airbag wouldn't be deployed.

you can disable the dong with SSS if memory serves.

BY the way, I am not sure if the occupation sensor is faulty if it blocks out the airbag.... I have heard of plenty cars in accidents where both airbags go, i think its more dependant on the crash sensor feedback then on the occupation sensor.

By the way, if this REALLY Bugs you, sit on the seat, measure the resistance given out by the sensor inside the seal, and replace it with a resistor, problem solved, and I know many guys repair a faulty sensor like that, as they are expensive..

Hello,
I bought a new e90 in Turkey recently. I have exactly the same problem. I am pretty sure that I had the gong when my wife released the buckle. Now I don’t have the gong even she isn’t have the belt on at all. I book a service appointment for next weekend but as I read there is no sensor for front passenger.
I am still very sure that I noticed the gong when I bought the car.

Probably explains why none of the people involved in the accident mentioned below survived except for the driver. When i read this incident, i was immediately reminded of this post. Maybe the passenger in this car's life would have been saved if the gong was irritating him enough to buckle up. RIP.

"A fatal and horrific accident has... left six people dead and one person in a serious condition after the driver of the light motor vehicle lost control and collided into a tree at the corners of Clarke and Manning Road in the early hours of this morning.

ER24 and other emergency personnel arrived on the scene and found what was left of the light motor vehicle as it had being ripped apart from the impact. Seven occupants were found strewed across Clark Road and far apart from each other. Emergency personnel assessed the patients but unfortunately five females and one male had already succumbed to their fatal injuries and were declared deceased on the scene. The other male was found seated on the pavement and was complaining of pains to his stomach and neck area. He was stabilised and treated for possible serious injuries and transported to Addington Hospital for further medical care.

It is believed that the occupants were travelling down Clark Road when the driver somehow lost control of the car and smashed into the tree. The impact caused them to be ejected from the vehicle. The light motor vehicle disintegrated into piece as parts of the car was found scattered in all directions of the scene.

The local authorities were on the scene and would investigate the incident further into the cause of this horrific accident."

So I spoke to the BMW sales lady that I bought the car from and explained that initially after having bought the car I am pretty sure I heard the gong when the passenger seat belt was not used and it was occupied. So she told me she would find out, but to the best of her knowledge the LCI doesn't have it.

However she called BMW HQ and they told her that the LCI models manufactured before 2010 does have the gong (mine was manufactured in Nov 2009 although it is registered as a January 2010 model). She's asked me to book it in to have it checked out. Will let you guys know how it goes.

I wish they had the gong going for the rear seats as well. I have a pre-LCI and I'm glad my passenger is reminded about strapping up. However I do come across some people that prefer to sit at the back, just not to strap up :banghead:

I visited authorized service last Saturday. They told me that there is no sensor for the passenger side. They treat me like I am a paranoid but I am very sure that it was working when I bought the car.

Hi guys,

I have a 02/2010 320d E90 LCI and noticed the same problem: the seat belt indicator in the dash and the seat belt gong do not go on most of the times for the front passengers.

Sometimes it works, but 99% of the times it doesn't. I am 100% certain that this feature worked before, because i can clearly remember the visual display and gong warning going off when the passenger disconnected the seat belt.

I called BMW but they said that if the passenger pressure sensor was defective, then the airbag warning would go off as well - and it doesn't in my case. They said the car would probably need a software update (?!)

Personally i believe that either that sensor is not registering the passenger's weight, or there's a problem with the thing in which you put the seat belt in.

So the LCI definitely has the pressure sensor. Here is the location and CODE (piece no. 6)

UPDATE:

So I finally took it in to Auto Atlantic to have this checked out, told them the whole story... am sure it worked before when wifey sat in front passenger seat etc etc, but I can only remember it working once and so on....

So they checked today and they tell me that LCI doesn't have it, they checked all sensors and then plugged it in to their system and found that there is no seat belt warning system for passenger seat....

oh well... but thanks guys, looks like it confirms what everyone on this thread had been saying.
