E90 LCI: 325 vs 330

Hi guys

As some of you may already know, I want to change cars. Been looking for a 6 pot, manual, M-sport E90 LCI.

I found a 325i and a 330i, similarly spec'd and similarly priced.
But according to Wikipedia, the LCI 325i has a 3.0 engine.

Is this so?

If that is the case, is it better to just get a 330i since I'm gonna have the fuel consumption of a 3.0 engine anyway?

Or is there a significant difference in fuel consumption between the two?

:fencelook:

Apologies if I sound like a noob, just trying to get bang for my buck.

We never got the e90 325i 3.0 in SA. Locally it's still a 2.5. Only the e82 125i came out with the 3.0.

Wasn't the e82 125i also a turbo'd IL6? just smaller/powerful turbo's than the x35's?

BUt back to the original question, I've also seen that SA's 325's are indeed 2.5L engines (due to a shorter stroke?). The e90 330i would be my pick, it's the highest output NA in-line 6 BMW made! (except the M engines obviously)

If fuel is a major concern then the 325i would make sense but remember that your driving style will also make a huge difference here, if you easy on the throttle with the 330i you can get some good consumption reading provided you stick to the hi-way. once you in town you gonna feel like you tank is leaking

If i had a choice i would choose the 330i, its sounds much more aggressive and and has the power to match the noise.

Take the 330i dude, I have the 320i and should’ve taken the 330i, the consumption is the same but the power is amazing on the 330i. I am thinking anything less than 330i and you should’ve even bother unless it’s a 320d

330i will use about the same fuel as a 325i

I would go 330i

Yep, there is a much of muchness and ultimately comes down to driving style.

As far as I know, it's only the 125i that had the 3.0l detuned engine...

Had an E46 325i and now I have an E90 330i, if anything the 330i is more economical especially on the open road. 330i worth every cent.

Pretty sure the consumption will be better on the 330i unless you drive like a granny.
I went from an E46 320i to my E90 330i & I get about the same consumption.
If you spend a lot of time in traffic, get the 330d

i have had 2 325i's both auto , pre lci and lci . CONSUMPTION SUCKS BIGTIME

MY 135 is much lighter on juice, you gonna average 14-17l/100kms town driving !

assuming 330 has more torque it should be lighter on juice

330d is the ultimate !

Would a 325 coupe not give me the same awesomeness as a 330 sedan?

Although it has less power, it also has less doors, so less weight so perhaps better power-to-weight ratio...

Yes? No?

I drive a E92 325i, it most definitely isnt fast, but for me it serves its purpose, we get ok consumption on open road driving about 8L/100KM, if you sit in traffic it does shoot up.

My friend and I recently travelled to Durbs, he has a 330i E90 MSport, on the straights he would pull away as expected, but when it came to the corners, we found that I could push a bit more and close in. Handling-wise the coupe is very very planted to the road, virtually no body roll.

The 330i does sound alot more fuller when revved up, the 325i only starts singing past 4000rpm. We noted the 330i is also more harder on
its rear tyres as he needed replacements alot sooner than I.

I owned a E90, before I bought the E92, I grew sick of seeing the same car on the road everywhere, all the time........for me it just didnt work,
which is why I got rid of it and bought the E92.
