E90 LCI 320d battery replacement (Durban)

Hi guys,

A friend of mine with a E90 LCI 320d needs to replace his battery (Size 668 AGM)

BMW want R4500 after discount.

Battery Centre Chatsworth is around the same price for a Raylite AGM 80AH.

Are these the going prices at the moment?

Also I have read some older threads of having to register the new battery - is this something that a dealer/workshop does or can it be DIY.

That's about the going price. If he has an original battery ask him to check if that sight glass is yellow. That's only when he should change it. If it's black then I suggest he puts it to charge over night for a few nights and it will then show green. A friend of mine had that issue. It's been 5 or 6 years now. He's still using that battery after the few nights of trickle charge.

In terms of the battery registration. I'd say grab a buddy with an inpa cable. I'm sure there's a few guys here around your area that will be able to assist. It's really quite easy so nothing to it. 5mins job

First step will check the sight glass - it is possible that the battery just ran low as he has two cars that he alternates between.

Just checked my receipt and it was R2100 in 2017. Prices have gone up alot. I bought mine from bmw umhlanga as they were cheaper than battery centre umhlanga.

My mechanic works for bmw and he did the install and registration. Let me know if you want his contact number. He stays at the beginning of verulam.

Please also check the distill water. The wife’s F30 alerted on the I Drive and disconnected some electronics. Took a look and the cells were dry. Bought distill water and till today it’s perfect.

Give Durban Brake and clutch (the jacobs branch) a call...i fitted a varta battery recently, think it was around 1.8k iirc :thumbs:

Its a load of bull this sealed battery's. Once the warranty is gone pull the sticker and oppen the caps and check the level. Even better advice buy some battery accid and top it up to cover the plates. Dont be surprised if you use a liter in the process. Then a good charge and the battery should be fine.

Managed to get a Varta from Atlas Battery for R3100.

I am currently in need of a battery and got quoted by these places so far (Cape Town)

Battery Centre Montague Gardens: R6275.55 includes VAT and return of the scrap battery. Raylite brand 36month warranty

Bosch Service Centre Claremont: R2960 incl. VAT. Bosch S4 668P
