E90 Harmonic Balancer

Ok guys so my Harmonic balancer on my 2007 330D E90 has decided that it's time for a change.

Just need some input on the aftermarket units. At goldwagen I can get a new unit aftermarket balancer for R3600, BMW is R8500. Now the issue is that I did some research online and found a lot of contradicting info.

Some people say they have not had any issues with the aftermarket units where others say they are not properly balanced and can damage the crank over time. If anyone can share some light here for me it will be appreciated.

Forking out and extra R4900 for the original unit over the aftermarket is heavy.

What make is the Goldwagen one? If its Corteco it should be good as that is OEM.

I am doing my research, going to do mine in the near future.

Thanks, this is going to be a bit of a costly affair :fencelook:

Need to get new bolts for the crank pulley and then a decent torque wrench as well.

Haha , Yes I actually should have said Vibration damper :hammerhead:

Ok just phoned GW and they say it's a BBR part made in Germany

I think for the price I need to try it

I see this same part is used on the 335D's abroad as well - https://www.oembimmerparts.com/BMW-335d-Crankshaft-Pulley-Vibration-Damper-p/11238511371.htm

Howzit tweeder, which Goldwagen are you using? I went to Edenvale today, they said they don't have stock for the 320d. Also, I was told, in order for the damper pulley to carry its warranty, the alternator pulley has to be replaced at the same time. Anyone else heads been told this?

I bought the last one today at Goldwagen edenvale. They also told me that the alternator pulley needs to be changed for the warranty but luckily the one on my 330d was not needed. There are some models apparently that has a different type of alternator pulley that needs changing for the warranty.

haha hows that for luck? Where did you buy the stretch bolts from? Did you buy a new tensioner and idler /belt too? How did you tell if your alternator pulley doesnt need to be changed? The sales rep who helped me said mine needs to,but that the system wasnt showing the part so he couldnt give me a price. I'll call a few other branches and see if anyone has stock

haha , I bought the stretch bolts from Northcliff Auto BMW and the new belt from auto alpina boksburg. Still waiting for my other belt as well which I should get on Tuesday.

I showed the guy at GW a picture of my alternator pulley and he told me it wasn't necessary to change it as it's not the one that needs changing. I wasn't going to change the tensioner but after some thought I decided that I would rather do it as I am busy repairing everything now.

Will contact GW tomorrow for a new tensioner pulley.
