E90 Footwell Module Comms Error

 Hey guys. I had a O2 sensor replaced a week ago before going to the coast. Got back today and threw Rheingold on just to see what errors my baby threw out after her 1st long trip. Now all of a sudden I'm getting comms error on the FRM module CC ID 231. No lights, No indicators... Complete light system failure, and I have one angry wife as she needs the car to go work tomorrow. Please, any ideas. I have disconnected the battery to see what happens.

You've had the classic FRM failure bud. And I'm pretty sure you had jump started the car recently because of a failing battery. Which is most likely the OEM battery the car left the factory with.

I do repair these, send me a PM after you asked BMW for the price of a new one.

Ta,

Ta,

Thanks for your reply. I'm in a panic. I have never jumped the car, but when the o2 sensor was replaced, so was the voltage regulator. I was told the car over charging at 15.2V. Could that be the cause?

The FRMs break due to voltage fluctuations and spikes. So if you were having issues with the alternator this could also cause the problem yes.

Can I get ur contact details Sir I am having a same problem of a firewall module that needs repair.

My contacts: 0844652087 or 0824347642

There is a guy in North gate who repairs these for R2500. My car did the same thing, windows not working, head lights permanently on, no indicators, no interior lights. I was in a jam, front windows were open and I had to go to work the next day and it was raining. I put transparent plastic and went to work, after work I had to drive from pretoria to North Gate with a car that didn't have indicators and plastic on the passenger and drivers windows while it was raining hard.

.....like R6.5k from the dealer plus 600 bucks to code.... :(
I know it's an old post, but frm's crash all the time.
I am in Jhb and can assist with reflash of frm.
10 min to do and no coding needed after.

If only I knew these were repairable when mine blew on me (alternator issues, jump start etc).

Was my first vehicle and I didn't know any better. Dealer gave me a new one for +-R30k IIRC :hammerhead: :hammerhead:

So a slight thread derail, however with the E90's you are not meant to jumpstart them?

How sensitive are these FRM modules? Is there any way around it where you can safely jumpstart your E90 without causing possible damage / issues with the FRM module?

That's cheap.
Mine was replaced at a dealer twice last year on their account as it blew while the car was there :smilebounce:
The invoice showed R18k for the part alone. :fencelook:
