E90 Facelift extra special features

Hi,

I was watching a tv programme called road mag. They did a road test on a e90 facelift 330d.

They had some interesting features like a dedicated call in assistant at BMW. so if you wanted to know if there were any shops near your location, then they would actually send it directly to your car, and the GPS would also recognise this and set the destination.

Another feature was the live service system whereby the dealerships would be able to know when your car needs a service and would actually call you to arrange a service.

Another feature was the crash impact sensors. apparently if a crash should occur, BMW is notified of the location, how many passengers were in the car and the intensity of the crash.

This test was a European test but it got me wondering if BMW SA has these features on their e90 facelifts.

@King or any of the other e90 facelift owners?

Nothing like that that I'm aware off. Would imagine thou that you would need to have I-Drive and Professional GPS in the car for something like that to work.

@BMW M - Yip that car had an I drive system that is apparently an upgrade from the pre fl e90. once again, not sure if this is something we south africans get.

Mine got bluetooth with BMW-On-Call saved :)
Lol but yeah you would need the updated i-drive and satnav.

I wonder if the updated i drive came as an option or was it standard on the e90 facelifts or did you have a choice between the older I drive and the updated version

@Yulesen - intersting that theyve got bmw on call, but does bmw on call assist with directions and can they send you the gps info directly to your car (if it has the new i drive)

No clue. Wish I had I-drive :(

Edit: I would think the I-drive if ordered as an extra would have been the updated version on the LCI.

Mine also has BMW on call, and the dealership from which I bought the car, numbers saved. As far as I know, its an European Spec feature..?? I Stand to be corrected.

Lol I just have to say my two cents on this one

My old 1999 MkIII Sat Nav has a feature you can program to dial an emergency call centre number via the in car phone and transmit the GPS coordinates and details of the car in the event of an accident.

My BMW dealer phones me all the time anyway trying to sell me stuff and I am fully capable of reading a mileage and service light off the cluster all on my very own.

Also if I'm too damn stupid to find a shop near me what kind of judgement would I have driving a car on a public street.

What's really new?

Are you guys seruous you would want these nanny features anyway?

@Rick - my intent was not to promote these "nanny features", rather to find out whether BMW SA offers the same benefits to their new car owners as their european couterparts.

These seem like pretty cool "nice to have" features. though we might not use them, it would be nice to know that its there.
