Hi guys my 335 is showing an engine light and when that light comes on the fan also kicks off, and I get an error message saying that power has been reduced but I should drive moderately and have the car checked by bmw.

Now I took it to them and they told me that it is the high pressure pump which need to be replaced and they quoted me 6k:banghead, my car is out of motor plan, I don't have 6k and I have a trip tomorrow to Rusterburg is it safe to drive?

Thanks

If it is the pump, you dont want to get stuck when the pump fails completely. So I wouldnt drive it like that

if it is the HPFP then I wouldn't chance driving the car at all, however is the car giving any other symptoms? any long starts in the morning or when hot?

under what circumstances does the half engine light come on?

lastly, I have a feeling your car has been misdiagnosed, the HPFP failing will not trigger the engine fan and cause it to activate, that fan only comes on as a result of the water pump beginning to fail, a second opinion is in order... also try and trigger the engine light before getting the codes read...

The HPFP was part of a recall. Should thay not cover that at their cost? Unless it already went through the recall, their parts also have a two year warranty.

I would check about the recall. If it hasn't had the parts, the time to have it done may have expired. Worth checking...

It doesn't come on always when I first start the car in the morning, doesn't even come own when I drive slowly only when I press a little hard then it comes on and reduces power. When it comes on the car vibrates for few seconds, then idles normally but with the fan activated.
