E90 clutch kit

Hi

I havn't purchased a clutch kit before but I did go through 4 clutches in in 60000 km's on my 323i e90 one thing you need to keep in mind is that you need to replace the flywheel when replacing the clutch on that car they cannot skim it so they need to replace it or you will be going though a lot of clutches after you change it the first time.

This is what a dealer that put the 5th clutch in told me the reason was that I was going through all my clutches the kit was put in without changing the flywheel.

After the changed the flywheel all worked great and never had a clutch problem again.

I could be wrong here but this was my experience

I think Autozone sell flywheels , maybe Sachs or LUK clutch kits - I think Sachs is OE for most bm's . CBS / Ferrobrake sell sachs .

BMW quoted me R4995 today for a clutch kit for my E90 330d. Im getting a "rattling" noise when the clutch pedal is half pushed down. Im thinking its the thrust bearing, which they will sell to me for R985 incl vat

if i remember right they about 2k from autozone... flywheel is about 3k

If your flywheel ate 4 clutches in 60k km it must have been defective from the factory. Never heard of clutches lasting this short. Unless of course you drive like a maniac :fencelook:

Back to the topic: If you do the clutch just inspect the flywheel, if there are lots of big "rust" (burn) spots or if its not straight (put a flat ruler against it and see) it needs to be replaced. If its straight and there are no burn marks there is no need to replace it as well.

Check flywheel , replace pilot bush in crank and use an alignment tool to centre clutch plate ( I made one at work from engineering plastic ) .
