E90 Byers Guide

Recently bought a pre-lci e90 320d in Auto and loving it :inlove:

Did a minor service at the Dealer and it only cost R1300, Major Service (Every 3rd service) goes for around R3600 which is VW prices.

Very easy to service, I DIY'd my services on my Polo TDI but I'd much rather keep the full service history on my BMW.

Change the oil every 7500km. Seems like a short interval (normally around 15000km) but it will prolong the life of your engine and turbo.

It uses a Condition based system so depends on how you drive.. but should be around 15 000km's or 1 year

These days with 10ppm and 50ppm I don't see the need to service your car every 7500km's unless you only drive that little in a year.

Mechanical sympathy will go a lot further then driving like a tool and thinking 7500km services are going to save a Diesel

I may be in the same boat in the near future (ie considering the e90).
Stupid question, what is lci?

Its basically the Facelift model

So how would one check for the difference. Obvious one of course.
I will not trust salesmen.

easiest way is LCI has all red tail lights, pre LCI has white/clear reverse light section.
Grill on a LCI is one piece where as pre LCI has a insert on the bonnet.
There are a few other changes (bonnet crease) but those to me stand out the most.

not to be rude, why is everybody referring to it as LCI and pre-LCI? Surely Facelift and Pre-Facelift is much clearer to understand....

Because BMW calls it LCI - Life Cycle Impulse.
From my understanding the LCI is more than just a cosmetic facelift - some suspension and powertain changes are present. Other members can confirm.

the six cylinder engines and steptronic auto boxes are basically bullet proof. With regard to fuel consumption, many people are under the mistaken impression that a 320 will be lighter on fuel but these cars are just as thirsty but without the power :tease:

Get one that's in the best condition for your budget, regardless of the variant. Otherwise my bias says get a 6 cylinder petrol! And avoid 320i if you can...
