E90 Brake Squeek

hi Guys, so after recently replacing my front brake pads on my E90, i notice they squeak when applying brakes gently. its a very nasty squeak that just doesn't want to go away. strange thing is, it only happens after driving a few km's.

On cold start driving there is no squeak at all when braking

any idea whats causing this?

i haven't checked the discs, but seemed to be fine prior to installing new pads.

i would assume my mech fitted the correct pads.

Applied a some copper slip on the back of the pads?

In most cases this is what solves the problem. Most places don't even bother cleaning the hubs and callipers properly when fitting new disks and pads, and then don't bother to apply copper grease where necessary. But it is also possible that the disks have a ridge from wear which could be causing the squeal with the new pads.

You gave your mechanic the job. Brake pads are so easy to do. spray a can of multi grade oil on the disc. You wont get anymore squeal.

Or turn up the radio.

Copper grease is still better, it's capable of handling far higher temperatures than typical oil, and it is sticky enough to stay, and provide some degree of adhesion if that makes sense (prevents the pads from rattling and shifting - that knock sound that one sometimes hears when braking going backwards, or after going backwards and braking).

Not sure if serious? :fencelook:

Its one of those E90 traits that you going to have to live with.

They are short term fixes like copper slip, but the brake squeak will come back.

Its irritating i know

Like i said earlier I had this issue and had the callipers serviced. Haven't had it in over a year.
