Does anyone know what changes were made between the 190kw version and the 200kw:thinking:

No idea. But would guess that breathing/ecu were optimised: At the intake, exhaust and an ecu tweak.

I've done some research and form what I gather it's software only.I also asked if it's possible to have the 190kw updated to 200kw and the response I got was that no upgrade can be done at a dealer as they don't have the software only BMW SA can:thinking:

Noticed that the new one is back to 190kw. Supposedly due to emission requirements :dunno:

Does it really make sense to spend +/- R4500 on software for 5kw to 10kw increase.

If you are going to decat then that would make sense:clap:

I would'nt spend on software but I've spoken to my contact at one of the dealerships wanting to know if they can reflash the computer box and he's gonna let me know tomorrow.

So wait...

@msm... Which 330i had 195kw and which had 200kw? What's the power on the E46's?

The e46 is rated at 170kw.

Did you ever get an answer?

Hate it when threads like this go dead!

I am wondering if there is not also a difference in the exhaust system. The intake I would think is no different though since it is already the 3 stage intake system. So this leaves software, emissions and therefore exhaust system that might be different.

The first 130i had 195kW if I recall correctly. :dunno:

All of them 300Nm as well. :dunno: Even the e46 330i had 170kW and 300Nm torque

130i 195kW, 300Nm
e90 330i 190kW, 300Nm and 200kW, 300Nm.

I would think it would be a software detune which would be more cost effective

That's my thought too in retrospect.

I think the torque was 310 or 315 NM on the 200 KW version.

200kW has 320Nm but the torque curve was improved.
The 20Nm isn't as important as the flatter curve, especially at the low end.
The 200kW handles traffic better & is more fuel efficient because of it.

I remember coming across somewhere that the 200kw version is direct injection with HPFP. So it would have different software natrually.

The same article also said that the 190kw version is more reliable because of its lack of complicated fuelling...

Different engine numbers as well, 190kw - N52, 200kw - N53. Its its just sw then maybe, because my 330's sw was upgraded by BMW when it had a major flat spot and loss of power. It cost me like 200 odd bucks. The car defiantly feels more responsive and pulls much better in the mid range.

To my knowledge we never got the N53, so the 200 KW is still the N52 non direct injection motor, and therefore I doubt that it has the HPFP.
