Hi guys. Im based in JHB ( Sandton) . My mechanic says I need to to do the turbo seals on my e90 330D ( mileage is 215k km) although there are no major symptoms thus far, just oil traces in the intercooler. Should I do the seals or rather save up and replace the turbo. Do I go with OEM or alternative and if so what cost will I be looking at? Any advice and recommendations?
Thanks

Get a new mechanic. Its relatively normal to have some traces of oil in the charge pipes.

Best place to recon would be Gabby @ Fastec Turbochargers. Usually About R5k or thereabouts to refurb a turbo

If you want a second opinion speak to Danny at DSC Motorsport - 0713621198 - to make sure it is just the seals or something else.
Definitely go to Gaby at Fastec Turbochargers in Rand Airport - Germiston - 0829224233 for anything turbo related.

Yes, to have oil/diesel in the inlet side of the manifold is not uncommon. Would not worrry about it too much. Seals leak so it could be just that. To replace the seals is not difficult so look at the connections between the turbo and the intercooler and intercooler and inlet manifold. If there is oiliness at the joints it is time to replace the seals at that point. Not too difficult to do.

Boost leak would leave you with oil residue around the hose clamps typically.
