E90 330d EGR Disable

Egr cuts your motor off when ignition switches off stopping a run away diesel! My friends modified cupra had to have new pistons put in. He did an egr delete as well as a few cupra here in Durban. Most reverting back as a safety measure. You can remove the kettle though

I have disabled the egr on my car about a week ago, done a long trip, and found that the diesel consumption definitely went down. The car also does not smoke as much under hard acceleration, that shows that the combustion process is more efficient.
I read on Wiki and some other sites that this is true, the egr basically brings down the combustion temperature to stop the oxygen from combining with the nitrous oxide in the mixture, stopping excesive nox from forming.
I would rather see my car's engine perform better!!
I just disabled the vacuum to the actuator for now, causing the egr valve to stay closed, but will also replace the complete valve later on with a blank as I have done on my old 530d.
Also there were no errors logged with the mod!
I have the 2006 E90 330d Manual model (180kw, 520nm) motor.

How did you disable the vacuum from the actuator?

so in theory, blocking off the vacuum pipe actually cancels the egr out?

what are the pros, and cons of doing this and would software need have to be done?

No Cons Colin. Unless you're a greenpeace junkie then you'll be unhappy that there will be more CO emissions.

It's just a valve that allows exhaust gas (from the exhaust manifold) to be redirected to the intake manifold. So your poor car is ingesting it's own poo to save the environment. That's mechanical (animal) cruelty IMO :) Block it off the car won't even know it's blocked. Or you can software mod it so the ECU doesn't activate it.

Do it now Colin, there's no way they will check or even know it's bypassed. They don't even remove the engine cover when servicing the car. It's 100% MP friendly.

If it was my car i would remove the broken pipe, get some one to weld it to close it up and put it back on the car. At the same time i will do the egr delete by blanking the vacuum pipe to the egr. In other words, disable the egr by blanking the cracked pipe. I read that the UK guys would normally weld a penny (i think it was) in the pipe to prevent the exhaust gasses back into the engine via the egr, as the penny would fit perfectly. Just my 2 cents!
