E90 330d Advice

Hi Guys,

Just need some advice from the diesel fanatics.

I currently drive a E46 330i 6 speed and have been scouting around for a replacement for a while now.

I have been offered a 2005 330d with 52000km, white, sportspack in manual.
The vehicle has a lot of extras eg. Navigation, comfort access, pdc etc...
Haven't seen the car yet, its a trade in at one of the BMW dealerships so have been given preference before it goes to the trade.
Bmw offered the owner R 160 000, but the owner wants more because of the condition, extras, mileage etc.
Obviously motorplan is no longer.
The guy is looking at abt R 185 000, I'm thinking of offering R 170 000.
What do you guys advise?
By the way, my 330i is on 160 000km and I do abt 30 000km a year.
The car will need to last me 2 years minimum, and not cost me too much in extra maintenbance.

What do you guys think?

Regards,
Firaz

The car wil most definately last more than two years.
There is a "swirl flap mod" that you need to do.

Just do a few searches for the "330d swirl flap" and you will soon find info about it.
Check the condition of the tyres. You propably don't want to pay 170k and then fork out another 10k for new tyres. They are RFT's so it is expensive.
You most likely want to obtain a space save spare wheel as well.

Swirl flap removal on a E90 330d?

E46 330d YES but not the E90 330d

The Diesel E90 330d is a out right winner in terms of family , saftey , consumption and packing a punch , well balanced car that will meet many needs.

Hi, i have the e46 330d Manual 6 speed, its bullet proof and on 170000 Km, im very confident that it can go to 300000km with no problems cause its still going as good as new.

I did the swirl flap removal, E90 2006 must be done too.

i know that the e90 330d manual is a really good car, i would buy that car at that mileagefor R170,000.. It has amazing power. Not the AUTO thou

We have a e46 330d which is on 405 000kms+ its an auto though, the gearbox has packed up 3 times, but we got second hand ones and refurbished the old ones. But besides hardly any problems with the car

What's wrong with the Auto???? The E90 330d has a much better/stronger ZF box than the rest of the E90 range and much better than the old GM boxes.

If i read it correctly the list of engines with swirl flaps make mention of the 3l E53 X5 to have swirlies, but my 2003 3l diesel (pre-facelift) does not have it, although my E39 3,0d does (removed them the day i got the car)
If i buy a newish model diesel i will make very sure that it does not have swirl flaps and have them removed as fast as possible if it does have them.

I think you missing me here mate , I asked how did you do this swirl removal mod meaning do you have a DIY etc that could possibly be made a sticky for future reference for new members joining. As you can see from the link I posted not all Diesels came with the swirl flap.

I am going to be a stick in the mud here. :sorry:
Trade is R127 600 and reatail is R150 500 so R160 000 is already R10k over retail. I think R160k is a fair price for a car that is essentially 7 years old. Yes it has low mileage and is probably in very good condition, but the market thinks it's worth less than what he wants.:fencelook:

Sorry, but "

was not intepreted as such. This is something that is known to be problematic at times and Member Firaz was looking for advise which I know can cause hearache, so it was mentioned.
I would buy that 330d e90 anytime, depending on the condition and if the price is right. The motors can last just about for ever if serviced properly.

Good buy.

If you plan to keep the car for a long period exceeding 170,000km a auto gearbox becomes problematic. the manual is bulletproof.

and also do a swirl flap removal once your car is out of warranty.

Loving the extras & KMs, if it is in perfect condition, go for it. It's hard to find such low kms, even in an 08. People tend to hold onto such cars & there's a reason for that

Is the auto box the same in the E90 330d and E60 530d ?

Have not heard of issues with the E90 330d auto boxes. Also most of the modded ones are autos, including mine. Not saying it will last forever, just saying that the reliability is pretty decent.

My personal opinion is that the diesel motor is better suited for an auto box.

I think they both have the ZF 6HP26Z box - software will be different though.
