hi guys

what would be the ideal exhaust size for this car.i would like to do full exhaust but don't know what size it should be.i was recommended 57mm bt isn't that abit too small?

thanks.:bangdesk:

57mm duel? Or single pipe? Single pipe wud just be daft. If ur looking at a duel 57 then it works out to 114mm total exhaust size

hmm...im not too sure.didnt really find out.obviously dual 57's might be too big.maybe dual 50mm?

It doesnt work like that. Althought it might be minimal There is less piping surface in a single exhaust so a single 114mm flow better than a dual 57mm

we just did a 57mm free flow for YUBEN on his E46 330i ....and he is loving it

the biggest hurdle would be underbody space, on the E46 there was sufficient space to run a dual 57mm pipe on the E46, but I am not sure if the E60 has such vast area's to accomodate a dual 57mm system....would need to put the car on the lift to investigate.

My apologies for the ignorance. My logic's a bit wack. Did a duel 50mm on my 325i E36 but like Ralf ses space myt be an issue with urs

No problem bud. Just wanted to point it out. From what I gather in theory, a bigger single exhaust is better than twin smaller pipes. Well for performance anyway. Saving weight and its more efficient etc.

thanks for the response.but what will the ideal size be(single)?

I really dont know since I'm not too clued up on this stuff.

But bigger is better. In some situations you may not be able to have a single big exhaust as there might not be space under the body so a dual single is better for some cars. Here is a thread they talk about mid section exhaust mods. Link

Best would probably be single 76mm if you can fit it.

dual 50mm to the first box with an x joint and there after 57mm should work well

i dont understand why the bmw exhaust must be be dual 50,dual 57 would be perfect provided ur doing the headers as well, from the primaries to secondaries etc...

most of our honda's are starting from 45mm from the exhasutport flange and ending with either 63mm or larger,if u can run dual then hit 57mm on

ive read that the 330 exhaust diameter in the centre in 2.2''(57.15mm) and at the back 2.5"(63mm)...so that would mean im just replacing it with stainless steel pipes and not really changing the size?

The 57works well, however the 1st piece just provides a little more torque on the lower revs. U can see the difference on a dyno graph

so should I keep the standard diameter?

From the end of the manifolds run 57mm with x-joint after the x-joint 57mm all the way. You can go 63mm however it starts to drone inside the car at low revs.

best advice is to to a before and after run on the dyno to see the power and torque increases throughout the rev range

also make sure the silencer boxes are proper free flow boxes and not chambered

remember that u might have to fit cat foolers to prevent the engine light from coming on if you are removing the cats from the manifolds, or worst case re map the ecu

give a few exhaust shops to find out more info

i would go larger than standard, the exhaust was made from factory to reduce noise and emissions and to make the car reliable and cheaper to manufacture

just go check supersprint page and copy their system or any international brand for that matter, im sure they have a larger diameter piping

ive checked the supersprint website.they using dual 54mm pipes:thumbdo:.
so i'm still confused , but thanks for your help though:ty:
