Hi guys,
Once again, issues have arisen on my 325i. That's the risk of cheaping out and buying a model with extremely high mileage :thumbdo:
So recently my engine coolant light came on (yellow) and I stopped and topped up with the necessary coolant.
A week later the light comes on again, followed by a red light and extreme lack of power. Now, this is my first proper vehicle and I didn't know what it feels like when a car overheats and loses power so this was all new to me.
So I pulled over and switched the car off. I could hear my fan spinning intensely before the car switched off. That's when I realised that the car had overheated. I left it for about 10 minutes and switched the car back on. Everything was running 100% for about a month. I still checked my coolant later that evening when the car had cooled down.
Switch to 2 weeks ago and the light came on again. Coolant levels were fine. I pulled in to have the error codes read and was told that the water pump is faulty and needs replacing. Now I had issues with the recent accident where I was hit but I had to pay out of my own pocket so I couldn't afford to replace the pump.
After leaving, the car has not given me problems since, so my question is:
Is the water pump actually faulty, or could the electrics be the problem? Possibly a short happening so that the pump doesn't receive any power?
TLDR;
Water pump faulty or electrics shorting resulting in no power to the water pump? Any way to check?
