e90 323i using oil

Im actually driving around with 2l of oil in my boot permanently just incase the low oil level light comes on.

Last time I had to do something like this was with my e30, but that had more than 400k km on the clock.

I find it really shocking that you don't get a dipstick on the new BMWs :nonono:

and then lets not even talk about the new 6 pots that seem to be using oil.

My E30 with 380K Km used no oil between services

Our E90 320i I topped up 1L at about 16000 km now its on 17500km and the "dip stick" showing halfway between full & top up

you guys might have blocked ccv
some guys say they have smoke out the exhaust sometimes these are symptoms of a blocked ccv iff ccv is blocked motor will use oil as well

Mine is currently sitting on quarter level remaining (of 1 litre top-up), so waiting to see when she cries for her top-up - will be the second time since owning the car that I will have to top-up. Have to do my sums to see what sort of mileage has passed since then - at a guess 5000 - 7000 km, not sure.

I wonder how "accurate" the electronic dipstick is - if it shows 50% level, does this realistically mean 500 ml to top-up? Still curious to know how it actually calculates the oil level, especially since the engine has to be running/driving to do this. Don't like not being able to manually check the level and top-up as required - would prefer to keep the level as close to max at all times!

I was considerating upgrading my e46 this year, but seeing all this oil usage, and the excuses BMW is coming up with.:idea: They have an excuse for everything seems like it. I have no choice but to start considdering other brands like mercedes:sorry:

I'm actually in the market for an '08 323i so this is thread is of real interest to me. My current e46 320i also uses oil more than the ex e36 316 did, but the difference in oomph is most definitely worth staying with a 6 cyl..oh and not to mention the exhaust note...Suddenly I have the urge to start my car...:rollsmile:

Hi Guys - I was this 2011 E90 Bmw 323i at an agent with 101 000km on it at R159k...any idea on general problems I should be aware of before signing..

Would a thicker oil, say 5w40 not help?

Hi. I have a 302i e90 2011. The problem I have is about 3000km back my oil lamp went on, so I filled it up and the oil lamp was gone. Now its back and I have filled it again and then started my car an open the bonnet and heard a strange humming sound. Did any one else have had the same problem?

I dont know about your humming sound. But the 320i the valve stem seals start to fail and you car use oil. Just let the car idle for a bit and rev it up if you see some smoke your valve stem seals are the prob.
