Hey guys.

I just bought my 323i about a week ago. The perfomance is great on the highway. The only thing is it is way to lazy out the blocks.

Can anyone advice me on what i can do to enhance the performance and the costs to it?

You should have bought a 330 then...

Not much you can do to make any real gains, apart from fitting a supercharger (read $$$).

Ja i would have if i had the cash for it. I bought it because i picked it up for next to nothing. And it was the bmw or 2 litre golf 5.

Don't know about you guys but i would take the bmw any time over any other car.

The BMW is WAAAY better than a golf that can only squeeze 85kW out of a 2l... I think you should be very happy with the performance of the BMW then...Only way to get real gains is to spend money. Cone filters and that type of mods only work on golofs...

You can try play with lower tire profile and differential ratios
to get slightly better acceleration but lose a bit of top end.

Any half decent mechanic should be able to do it for you, you will just need to source the diff somewhere.

I agree with leaving it as is..
Look it's not a fast car out of the block but when cruising there is nothing wrong with it. It has power higher up in the rev range and that's ok.

Anyways i doubt you looking for a robot to robot racer but as a high speed cruiser it's a great car.. :)
Also something that i did try, i know i wasn't gonna get far is try a private strip against a polo GTI. not the new one but a '08 standard at the time i tried it. take the revs up to about 2.5k rpm and then let go of the clutch. you pull that little polo but once you both go to 2nd gear you gonna start having a problem.... lol lol.. but in it's own, a lovely car cause i have one too.. :)

From what i heard is that people say you can flash the ECU to 325i software as it is the same engine and only the manifold that's different and you will gain a few extra kw. but do you really wanna go that route ?

I thought about it and decided if i want something faster i will have to buy it.

Hope it helps a little and congrats on the car :)

also, if you drive the car hard for couple hundred kms it will learn your style of driving and possibly improve.

sure my car is not like a bullet (also 323) but its pretty quick after getting used to how I drive...

my e46 323 was chipped with induction filter and short shift and lightweight flywheel. Used to kill 325i and 328i's... even give the 330's a good run.

Then I supercharged it...

Happy Ending...

It all comes down to what you want. Do you want a comfortable ride with good performance.. Then maybe just chipping and induction. Maybe exhausts, but the minute you start looking at changing gear ratios, flywhees and clutches, which give big performance leaps, the car becomes very raw...

I must say tho, since adding the supercharger, my car has become easier to drive. That lightweight flywheel and racing clutch really is a b*tch to drive.

I agree Cole.. :)

my car knows already that to see 600km from a tank of fuel doesn't happen very often.. lol

Ok. I did some research last night. You can do a performance chip through BMW. They increase the throttle response, power and torque.

the guy i spoke to said the only way to get it 160KW is to do that, the intake manifold and the exhaust. Thats where they choke the power he says.

He also said he has a 323i 2006 model. He said that he did exactlty that, but he did the TNT exhaust with silenced boxes and then he also did the branches. he said he gets 172kw on the flywheel.

Personally i don't think it is that much. but I think all this will make quite a difference. But you know what ($$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$) :thumbdo:

Cool... Could you get us more info on the performance chip and prices etc.

Never heard about that at all... besides ACS stuff that is.
