Hi all, need your advice/expertise, here goes my story

Ever since having owned my E90 320i sportspack its been nothing but a headache to me...first day I got it it had a yellow half coloured engine light, managed to go away by itself after a few hours and never came back for the past 2 years until today on my way to Ellisras from Pretoria. Then there was the steering column I had to replace recently, along with the radiator. Besides the yellow engine light that re-appeared today it now shows a red light with car on a lift...I managed to get to Ellisras now my worry is whether I will be able to drive it back to Pretoria....Advice please

You made it sound like you've had problems since day 1. The car is due for a service. That's what the red car on a lift light is.Relax.

Engine light is probably a dead sensor. Small hassles china. Get the codes read. Car is fine to drive.

Thanks guys, what I forgot to mention too was that as I was driving another yellow light came on to warm me about the coolant level....Now that the car was cool enough for me to check the level I noticed the coolant level is normal (needle sticks right up to the top)...could this now mean me level sensor is shot?

Probably is. Book her in to BMW for diagnostics or one of the tuning shops nearby. TuneTech, RGM, etc. Maybe someone on the forum with a code reader can help. I would offer to help but I unfortunately don't have a code reader.

the coolant tank has a sensor, and when the level drops below the specified value, the light will be triggered.
there could and most probably still is enough coolant in the system to make the car remain at its specified temperature, but not advisable to continue on long drives, esspecially since you have already lost (possibly25%) of the water.
Fill up the tank to the correct level when cold, in the morning, to the prescribed level.
Check the engine bay for signs of water leakage, normally a white residue is vizible on pipes/joins/radiator etc
