E90 320i - to buy or not to buy

Hi all, I want to know from all the experts if a pre-owned BMW bought from a BMW dealership is a good buy. I am aware of the fact that all these BMW's go thorough rigorous tests and checks and assures an accident free and genuine millage vehicle, which gives a buyer peace of mind. But one is always afraid of the fact that the car may have been abused and could give problems in a few km's time ?
I saw a E90 320i sports pack 2006 BMW at a dealership with 58 000km on the clock for R220k.

I also noticed that a new 320i sports edition is nearly R400k ? ouch !

Please advice accordingly.

Usually, a pre-owned vehicle would qualify as a sold buy, due to the rigorous tests, etc etc.

However, a search on Hellopeter.co.za can quickly reveal just how many people have bought cars from BMW dealerships, only to find out at a later stage that the car was involved in an accident/ damaged and said damage/ accident was not disclosed to the "unaware" buyer.

So best to be cautious, dont accept everythign they tell you, and check and recheck whatever you can to make sure you are not buying a "tainted" car.


As for the part about it being abused, you will never be able to know with certainty, whether that tear in the leather on the backseat was due to "abuse" or a mishap, which can constitute normal wear and tear. Accidents do happen.

Best to be very sceptic and check everything.

Bro, dont trust BMW 2nd hands.......if you notice BMW is giving R40 000 added on the trade in of your car. I went to BMW last week to trade in MY BMW e46 for a e90. The where giving me 100k with an additional 40k for my trade in on a new bmw WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT MY CAR.......THEY COULD BE TAKING IN SOMEONES JUNK AND REALLY DONT GIVE A DAMN....A buddy of mine bought a 330D from BMW last year. Look freakn sweet until he took it for an AA Test as he wanted to sell it this year. Found out the car was in an accident.

For 220k buy one privately and look for a 323i.....You can pick up a clean one now for that price and maybe even a later model with low mileage. After the facelift came out the older shape fell drastically...

Buy privately. R220K for a 320i is a joke!

The car is over priced. You can find a later year model with about the same mileage, maybe lower, if you search around a bit.

Just remember to always get an AA test done on the car before purchasing - should cost around R450. If there is a problem with it, they will pick it up.
