hi all,

just want some advice please.

my car has the N46T engine with 160 000km
i want to replace the belt pulleys and belt as preventive maintenance.
I want to know if i can just replace the wheel/pulley on the Tensioner and not the whole tensioner?
BMW sells the complete unit, ie tensioner with pulley, which is expensive and in my opinion not necessary as the tension seems fine.

Should I just replace the whole unit or not?
If not, where can i buy the tensioner pulley in JHB?

Thanks

When does the belt and tensioner need to be changed.
I was told that they only need to be changed after examination .

sorry for the hijack, I had mine changed at 105 000km

If you going to open up, to do the labor, you might as well replace the entire unit at once. Well, that is what I would do.

I remember being quoted R1600 by BMW for the entire unit. So I just replaced the Pulley.

Not really opening up anything, its for the belt tensioner, not the chain.

the belt is in front of the engine and quite easy to access, so its just a matter of change the whole unit for around R1600 or replace just the pulley for about R200 or less.
