e90 320i rattle under acceleration

I have this problem for 6 months now. When I start my car in the mornings or when engine is cold, all sounds fine when idling or revving. But as soon as I drive off with light acceleration, I hear a rattle/pinging noise from engine for the first 1km or so till engine warms up, then noise disappears.

Any advice plssss?

Is the car throwing any error codes? What type of oil do you use and how long ago did you do a oil service

This might be that the oil isn't reaching the lifters when it's cold and only gets up there once it's warmed up a bit and the oil flows better

I am not a mechanic but had a similar problem with my VW Passat a few years ago in my case the oil pickup was blocked due to sludge buildup from years of the wrong oil being used in the motor

I used Shell helix ultra 5w40 but change to Bmw 5w30 lately and still no difference. I change oil every 6 months.

I am no expert and these are merely suggestions.

Check alternator pulley.

Check Timing chain tensioner.

These don't explain why the sound goes away but still worth checking.

I read with some users it happens in drive and reverse, my rattle is only 2nd or 3rd gear under acceleration, but so far im also guessing alternator pulley.

Were are you based?
One options is to remove the belt and try it again when cold and see if the noise is gone, if it is, you know it is something related to the belt/drive system. If not you need to look else were.
