E90 320i Coolant Waring

Hey guys! this week my car has been flashing a coolant low warning light upon starting it in the morning. This happened 3 times this week. When i see the error, i just turn off the car add some water and drive to work...

I am now worried that i might be damaging something. Do i need to buy this coolant animal so that i can put in the car?

The car in question is an e90 320i, 108KM on the clock. Recently did 100K service. I have read somewhere that water-pumps also needs to be changed around those KM. How true is this...

I was thinking of getting this coolant thing this weekend and see if that helps.

get to Ross duncan, he is close to you, rather have it checked out

With the heat from the engine, it can dry up quick if it's a small leak. And there is a large cover at the bottom, so it may not leak all the way down to the ground.

Get it checked as soon as possible, because the E90's have no temp gauge and you may end up overheating and blowing the head gasket

Is it also an e90, what mileage do you have on yours?

What did you do to get rid of the problems? I am just curious

I am going to go and see Ross after work, he said he will do some pressure tests on it.

Having the same problem with mine... but im loosing water (filling every 2/3days)

also going to have it checked this weekend. will post the outcome once im done.

I've had this issue and couldn't see where it was coming from. Turned out I needed to change the water pump. The water will drip out from below behind the Aircon pulley so it's not visible, especially with the air intake cover on.

Have the water pump checked as the housing tends to perish. Whilst you at it might as well change the thermostat...at least that's what I did :thumbs:

UpDate - Booked the car in today and the mechanic said it was a sea-pipe (not sure of spelling). So he replaced it and he said it would be fine now. Will take the car for a spin after work and see if it overheats again.

This could be the pipe that has the aluminium heat shield on that is fitted into the left side (if standing in front of car facing engine) of the engine block. The end that goes into the engine block tends to perish as well.

Short pipe and is bent in somewhat of an "S" shape.

Hopefully it's sorted though :thumbs:

Glade to hear mate... Sorry I missed your earlier question, Mine has got about 50k on the clock now, did nothing!! the light just does not come on since the last re-fill.

I have also just had the same problem, 320I E90 120000 km, the light flashing again 4 days after topping up with BMW coolant and water. The car is being pressure tested at BMW R750!! on Monday. Hopefully it is just a leak
